Just a fun topic.
What you did when you opened Houdini 12 for the first time?
Post your thoughts and tests.

I opened it, created a sphere turned on High quality lighting and the sphere dissapeared, I closed houdini. I think my video card doesn't support the new viewport:/ its gtx 295 . do you know how can I solve this problem?

I'm running dual GTX 285's (SLI) and I initially had a similar problem. I updated my drivers, relaunched and chose GL 3.2 from the '3d viewport' prefs. Works fine now.

I had the same problem. The reason is the opengl version of the vga. In the preferences, I don't remember where now (search there, please), you can change the version of opengl. That should fix it ;)

as far as i know, old vga's don't run this version of opengl.

Love H12!!! Everything seems to be much faster. The new pyro is awesome. Really clean and simple, and easy to use. I did notice however, that when I ran a pyro sim with the opencl enabled, the sim ran at the same speed as it did when opencl was disabled. I have a gtx 470. Anybody else experiencing this too?

Fabiano, nice work as usual! :)

Vardan Petrosyan, did you solve the problem updating your videocard driver as wick3dParticle suggested?

I tested just simple things, a pyro from a sphere and a RBD simulation, but what I'm really appreciating are the little gems they put here and there:
1. When you create a Parameter node in SHOP, the type of output, the default value and the range are now near the name and the label, so you have no more to scroll all down to insert values
2. when you search for an op and you start typing characters, Houdini shows you all the ops where that characters combination is in the name

I think there are a lot of things to discover about this brand-new version, maybe it should be a nice idea to share all new features and changes.

My first test with cloth download. On left H12, on right H11.
On my 4 years old DualCore after 30 minutes I got 170 frames in H12, 25 in H11. And H12 gives you nicer details. H11 on default settings, H12 uses scene made in H11.

Edit:
Actually there is one thing I changed in settings. I turned on "Self Collisions".

I noticed the same. I checked with Process Hacker and there is a veeeery slight performance difference. Without OpenCL a Billowy Smoke used 40-50% CPU and 3-4% GPU. With OpenCL it was 35-40 CPU and 4-5 GPU. And no noticeable speed increase. Really hope that's a bug somehow... (It's still twice as fast as it was in H11 so that's good of course...)
