If I have animated opacity attributes for points or primitives , would it be possible to see them in viewport?

You can use the Point SOP to output both vector Cd color and float Alpha attributes and these will display in the viewport. Note that you need both Cd and Alpha point attributes to exist on your geometry to see Alpha.
As for a colored opacity value, you can use the Mantra Surface shader and it will inherit the Cd and Alpha attributes on your geometry to display through the shader's OpenGL settings as well.
