Hey, I'm trying to set up a small scale farm (1 server, 2-3 clients), I'm not sure if there's a recommended linux distro for a render farm or if there's any in-depth guides available. I've been struggling to set machine names (domain names?) on mint os 12.
Any tips or advice about this would be great, thanks!

The server can be a render node too since the workload of the render queue will be light with only a few nodes. There's not a recommended Linux distribution but any modern distribution should be fine. The documentation for HQueue is pretty complete and is the best "guide" available that I know of.

For general Linux questions you might try a dedicated Linux forum. Not that you can't ask here but you are likely to get a response sooner from a dedicated Linux forum. Mint is based on Ubuntu which has a very active forum (I'm a member there). Mint has a forum too but I've never used it.

To change the hostname edit the /etc/hostname file. It typically gets set during the install. The machine will probably need to be restarted after the change.
