Hi,

here is another puzzle part for my current WIP 'RDG Pandora' [1][2].
The aim of this work is to investigate the interplay of dynamics and other stuff I learned the last months.

The is part is called RDG Snake Eyes.
This setup ensures that dropping cubes stop their motion facing the 'right' side up.
I fetch the orientation of the boxes using a dynamicsCHOP. The channels are reversed and then converted into constants.
That way I can pre-re-rotate the boxes in SOPs and apply the motion using a dynamictransform.

Number of cubes sets the number of cubes to be dropped.
To vary their motion their Z velocity can be changed.
Pressing the button 'update simulation' caused the chops to be updated or snapped.
And voila - snake eyes again. Well almost every time.

I tried to replace the boxes with my folding cube. But there were some problemes as I merged the rig into my simulation and I got strange offsets. I guess this can be explained with different coordinate systems.

To get closer to the solution I simplified the setup again:

The boxes open now smoothly.

The current question is:
How do I create/rename channels on-demand to match my cube number to offset/strech the opening times of the boxes.

Georg

thank you, jason.

Now I tried to stamp the colors to the floor.
The more hits/collisions the more intensive the color.
The concept gets illustrated - but still a long way ahead:

Is it possible to access the $JUSTHIT in a VOP POP - probably.
I remember a thread where somebody explained howto access attributes form previous frames in pops.

but some colors help to see things that don't happen:
