FLIP particles with rotations

22 March 2013 - 05:44 AM

is it possible to get rotations from a FLIP simulation?
I´m going to do some tests, but from the top of my head I´m thinking on playing with the POP Solver along the FLIP solver....

Obviously I´m thinking on copying some geometry over FLIPs and this means rotations do matter.

"eyebrow raising" things on H12.5 for existing users

15 March 2013 - 03:09 AM

I thought I would open a thread so the regulars around here can comment on things that raised an eyebrow while playing with the new 12.5 update.

I will start with a simple but interesting one. Regarding the cloud light the help docs states in a yellow box:

Note

This node currently only works with standard Houdini volumes. It does not work with VDBs

But it doesn´t seem to be true, as the cloud rig itself creates a volume with VDB and lits it with the Cloud Light quite effectively...I blame to outdated docs here or maybe last minute changes.

PS: By the way, "Volume Step Size" is now called "Volume Quality", which makes sense, but makes me think SESI feels we´re becoming dumber :P

Melting Pagoda

14 March 2013 - 05:11 PM

Hi there.
I did a mini-project to practice variable viscosity FLIP fluids.
I would like to revisit a couple of shots, but until I´m able to use the render farm at work, all my farm is my laptop. :)
PBR in Mantra might not be the fastest thing ever, but the quality certainly is there.

Also...I didn´t know 12.5 was about to get released! I would have saved some (preciousss) sim time! :P

The Unpronounceable Magic Tome of N´kharjkhhhajjrstsdfghhhn-gjh!

What? I warned it was unpronounceable... :P
I´m not very good coming with names...

Just a nice personal project to flex my Mantra muscles.

Rumour:Autodesk no longer going to develop 3dsMax for

04 September 2012 - 07:50 AM

http://www.reddit.co...op_3d smax_and/

Don´t know how official this is, but it sounds pretty legit to me because of some of the details given.

There must be some pretty annoyed MAX users around, given it´s clearly going the CAD way.
Also the Motion Builder part is pretty damaging to all of us, considering there´s no true alternative to it
