  1. Hi all.. I'm trying to find the solution, how to control water (or whitewater) shape behaviour around the floating boat. I would like to obtain shape like in top picture on the left. But my results always looks something like on picture bellow, (very extensive side ripples) which I don't want to. Nobody in tutorials or PRO courses doesn't explain how to control that behaviour, if I don't want leave simulation to work 'naturally'. I think it has something to do with the custom velocity values, but I had no good result with my experiments. I saw some tutorials for Maya's or Max's PhoenixFD, where was really good looking results. So, does anybody know, which parameter, feature or node is responsibile to control that, if I want to avoid natural behaviour and obtain the shape like on top left on the picture? ps: The top picture simulation made somebody in Houdini (all boat floats is 58 km/h) with some personal 'KA_wave' tool, which doesn't exist for commercial use. ..I can pay for explanation or shared example hip file..
  2. Hello there! I'm trying to create a ship sailing effect on Houdini 17.5 (with Guided Ocean Layer tool). But I'm having lot of issue. - First of all, as you can see on flipbook, I have lot of particles popping up from ship sides. Why it happens? Can't figure out how avoid this problem. - I used the Deforming Object shelf tool for simulating the ship as volume source. However if I choose Volume as Velocity Type on Flip Solver > Volume Motion > Collisions tab, it looks like fluid doesn't interact well with my geo. Basically I have not splashes, even if I select "Use Volume Velocity for Collision" on Flip Object > Collisions. So I need to switch on Point velocity Type in order for me to have good results. Is that a correct way even if my collision source is a Volume? Is it better to treat collision geometry as volume or mesh? - Is there a way to avoid splashes to slide on surface? I tried to increase the Velocity Blend (on Flip Solver > Particles Motion > Droplets) with no results. - Lastly, I'd like to achieve a good results regarding wave trails (see pictures). Basically I have too rounded and large waves from the ship prow. I'd live to have more V Shaped waves. My scene is more or less in real scale (meters). I used a 0.8 Time Scale value in FLIP Solver in order for me to have good trails, but cannot achieve the desired result. Any help will be really appreciated. Thank you so much for your time. 3. Hey All - I have an ocean in Houdini with a boat floating on it. I'd like to attach a camera to the mast, but can't figure out how to do it. Any ideas? Thanks!
  4. Hey guys, Here's a new project I'm working on as I have some free time. The boat is a free model from cadnav. The main rbd sim with instanced debris is there : https://streamable.com/pcayf I used the new rbd deform pieces for the mesh (which is pretty useful) and I'm looking to add some noise and more details to the edges later. I've made the explosions (but infortunately I have only 119 frames because it crashed, I may resimulate the explosions 1 by 1 instead of the 4 in a row) : https://streamable.com/sjcje I've also made a quick low res render to see how the ocean and the explosions behaved all together with a lil bit of comp (to match my background) : https://streamable.com/1sduw Now I need to add sparks, smoke trails, and flip white water, and maybe additionnal splashes, refine the ocean.. Cheers and happy confinement !
  5. I have boat wakes from Ocean flat tank .Fluid compress and the Surface cache. Exporting to texture at the oceanevaluate node give me the ocean wakes and the boat in black. What I want is only the the wakes from the boat as a displacement information so I can apply it on a grid that already have ocean deformation in Maya ( for Redshift ). Is anther another way to do it? Thank you! This is what I have now
  6. Hi I'm trying to make a boat on an ocean and then work the splash. The problem is that the guiding ocean does not work for me, I have another project with another mesh and it does not give me problems but in this it is as if the forces did not work, and the ship sinks. I have tried to change the center of the mass and its values, frictions, vop force values ... but it still does not work. Any suggestions? I share the Hip File and the bgeo: casco_geo.1.bgeo.sc SHIPV1.hip
  7. Hello! I'm trying to create the wake and white water created by a boats engines/propellers. I've made it work by adding forces from a PointVOP into a fluidsource, but as soon as I change the Particle Separation in the flattank_initial, it stops working. Also, when entering the node containing the plane from which I create the force, the perspective gets all weird. In the attached file the forces do not work. It's a super simple setup, but as this is my first attempt at Houdini, I'm stumped. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Attached: Workfile, Indie Limited-Commercial license. 8. hey guys, a while back i was trying to make a boat look like its floating using ocean waves shelf tool. what i did was i took the boat model and converted it to static object and put that in the ocean wave and it worked. but now when i trying to recreate the same thing the boat is just stuck in the space and there is no effect of ocean wave on it. what am i missing? if anyone tried it please let me know. thanks Deepak
  9. Hey everyone! So here's a little quick project i did this weekend, it's pretty low-res. I'm not satisfied with the foam pattern so for the next simulation i'm gonna try some custom velocity forces to generate foam from more specific areas, and of course up-res the particle numbers ALOT! Any feedback appreciated - Enjoy! Technical specification: Main FLIP Simulation: 3hours 30min Foam Simulation: 3hours 40min Meshing Process: 2hours Main FLIP: 6.000.000 Particles Foam: 500.000 Particles
  10. Hi everyone, I’m pretty new to Houdini, so please bear with me. I want to try making a little boat passing through a body of water. Now I know how to use the boat to affect the water and create the wake, but I also want the boat to be affected by the water: I’d like for the boat to rock with the water’s waves. Is it even possible for an RBD object to be affected by a flip simulation and if so how does it work? Or would I have to animate it myself? I’d be grateful for any help you can give me Thanks in advance! Cheers
  11. Hey guys! This quick Flip Fluid R&D was aiming to create a fairly realistic Boat Riding simulation in a large scale water. The video contains a breakdown with some information about my system specs and my simulation settings. The end result didn't come out as good as I wanted to, since I wanted to have more particles and higher render settings, but I didn't have a lot of time working on it and my laptop wasn't able to handle more particles in the given time period I had for creating the effect. But all in all it was a good exercise and it was a fun little project. SOFTWARES USED: Houdini FX, Nuke, After Effects CREDITS: Animation, Simulation, Shading, Rendering and Compositing was done by Laszlo L. Ujvari aka. Myself Boat model was downloaded from 3dmodel.domawe.com Music: Zero7 - Waiting Line Thank you for you attention! Hope you enjoy!
