Our commitment, as an online school, is to offer the best learning experience in the market. Therefore, all our content is available in English and Spanish. HOW IT WORKS This course will be delivered via video only. We will work on weekly projects, so will have to meet the assigned challenges. Keep in mind that these assignments will make up interesting material for your «Demo Reel». Likewise, we will give you access to the Facebook support group, where you can interact with your instructor and classmates. The course is divided into 4 modules: MODULE I The Awakening (8 weeks) We will start by explaining how to take your first steps in the software. The content is highly optimized to get you familiar with Houdini in a dynamic and productive way. We won’t talk about every menu or button; all this information will be explained on-the-go, along with the training. Our priority is to make you feel comfortable from the start. You will find out about the main nodes in Houdini, you will learn to move around the interface and we will teach you how to control points and particles (points, pops and grains). At the end of this module, you will be able to create simulations of rain, sand, snow, perspiration, sparks, ashes, confetti, fireworks, bubbles, and much more. This is not a lighting and rendering course, but we will teach you everything you need to submit your project with a perfect final look. MODULE II Fire Inception (8 weeks) Explosions, fire, smoke, clouds … everything you have been waiting for! This module is full of action. We will focus on learning to emit and control volumes, using of one of the most powerful solvers in Houdini, i.e., “Pyrosolver”. You will learn different methods to accelerate your simulations, always working as quickly and efficiently as possible. We will teach you how to create shaders that will make your simulation look realistic. Recycle! Every setup created during these 8 weeks, can be reused to create new scenes. MODULE III Rise of the Fallen (8 weeks) You will become a weapon of mass destruction! You will learn to perform different types of fractures and we will provide you with all the tools to control and choreograph your simulations. In this third module, you will put together everything you have learned so far to create complex scenes using particles and volume. Breaking objects, demolishing buildings or splitting a land into two lots, are just some of the challenges you will face here! MODULE IV Deep Dive (8 weeks) We will have to put out the fire after the chaos… This is the final module of the course, and here you will learn to work with FLIP, which is the Houdini’s solver to create liquids. You will recreate infinite oceans and simulate water. You will learn how to create foam, bubble and spray passes. Finally, we will teach you how to deal with the different viscosities to get simulations of blood, chocolate, honey, yogurt, caramel, etc. APPLY TO THE RENASCENCE PROGRAM NOW AND GET 25% OFF!* 399$ 299$ http://houdini.training/
  2. Pluralsight is proud to offer three new courses... one covering intermediate level ocean shot development, a second covering the development of visual effects for Unreal Engine, and another covering the fundamental math concepts that are pivotal to working within Houdini. Below is a bit about each course and a link where you can check out the course overviews. Houdini: Intermediate Ocean FX by Andreas Giesen Link: www.pluralsight.com/courses/houdini-intermediate-ocean-fx In this course, you'll learn how to setup a procedural ocean and do a flip fluid simulation for a traveling boat in choppy waters. First, you'll discover how to use the ocean spectrum to create an infinite ocean. Next, you'll add the boat, do a flip simulation for a specific area with high detail, and add whitewater and mist. Finally, you'll extend the simulated area and set-up the shaders to render all the layers. When you're finished with this Houdini 16 course, you'll not only have an ocean rendered with a high detail fluid simulation, but you'll also have a workflow on how to master your own ocean and fluid challenges in the future. (Software required: Houdini 16.) Houdini VFX for Games by Andreas Glad Link: www.pluralsight.com/courses/houdini-vfx-games Have you ever sat down in Unreal Engine to create an effect, and not had a clue where to start? In this course, you'll start from the very beginning by creating the textures for your sprites. Next, you'll create debris in a way that allows you to use it repeatedly and uniquely. Finally, you'll add all the extras to really sell the effect, like decals, camera shake, and a shockwave. When you are finished with this course, not only will you have gained a deeper understanding of timing and the importance of telling a story with the effect, but you'll have planted the seed for future endeavors into proceduralism. (Software required: Houdini 15 and up, Photoshop and Unreal Engine 4.) Practical Houdini Math Tips by Beau Garcia Link: www.pluralsight.com/courses/houdini-practical-math-tips In this course, you will learn the math that drives Houdini effects production. First, you'll learn about Sines and Cosines. Next, you will explore the concept of Vectors. Finally, you'll finish the course learning about Matrices, Quaternions, Dot Products, and Cross Products. When you're finished with this Houdini course, you'll have a solid foundation in the math skills needed to produce high end visual effects. (Software required: Houdini 15 and up.) Thanks, and as always, I'd love to hear your feedback on these courses so we can continue to improve! Learn more about SideFX and Pluralsight: www.pluralsight.com/sidefx
  3. Pluralsight Creative is now offering 2 brand new learning paths for Houdini. Learning paths are a series of courses organized into levels for easier organization. That way you can start with the first course in level one and work your way through all of the courses and levels sequentially. How to get started in Houdini: http://www.digitaltutors.com/learningpath/44-How-to-Get-Started-in-Houdini The How to Get Started in Houdini learning path offers a step-by-step approach for artists who have never used Houdini before. This learning path is a more general approach to learning multiple aspects of the 3D pipeline within Houdini. Throughout the tutorials in this learning path you will walk through the fundamental aspects of modeling, materials, lighting, rendering, particles, fluids, rigid bodies, scripting and digital asset building. After completing this learning path you will have a solid understanding of the various aspects of Houdini. And Dynamics in Houdini: http://www.digitaltutors.com/learningpath/71-Dynamics-in-Houdini For Houdini artists wanting to learn how to take advantage of powerful dynamics capabilities, the Dynamics in Houdini learning path can help guide you through learning many of the tools available to you. By the end of this learning path you'll have a solid understanding of the DOP context within Houdini. This learning path is not intended to teach you the basics of moving around in Houdini. Instead, with the Dynamics in Houdini learning path you'll focus learning how the different dynamics engines work inside of Houdini. Enjoy!
  4. What should I teach?

Hi Guys, I put my reel out a while ago and since then I've recieved quite a lot of emails asking questions about some of the work and for tutorials etc. Mostly from people who are still trying to get into the industry. My reel: I'm thinking about making a course for those people specifically, focusing on some of the usual FX challenges and helping to create some work to add to their reels and hopefully make them more hire-able! I do a fair amount of interviewing people and watching reels for potential new people to bring onto the team, so I have a good grasp of what we/others look for in showreels. So I'm looking for some advice or suggestions, should I do a course that covers a broad range of topics and how to make them as pretty as possible for a reel? Should I maybe focus on one type of effect and then introduce other courses to tackle the rest one by one? Any other suggestions or requests from people who would be interested in this sort of thing would be much appreciated! Thanks in advance Jay

  6. CG Workshop - Intro To Houdini 14

Hey Everyone, CG Workshop is currently enrolling for the Intro To Houdini 14 course. I will cover a variety of material and get into many technical low level concepts, such as the math, geometry, and trigonometry involved in gaining complete control over an effect. When it comes to making great FX, there aren't any push-button solutions. This course helps to lay that groundwork to understand what is going on under the 'hood'. I will take you step-by-step through the construction using production techniques in Houdini, right from looking at the UI and procedural modeling in Week 1, and eventually on to particles, grains and fluids. We will cover methods that give complete control when you're procedurally fracturing geometry, creating dust and debris, dissolving effects, as well as procedural animation and modeling, to name a few. http://training.cgsociety.org/course/introduction-to-fx-using-houdini Check it out and let me know if you have any questions! 7. Link: CGWorkshop-- VEX in Houdini The course starts August 4th and runs for 8 weeks. I'm going to start out covering the basics of VEX, then we'll move on to some really fun projects. It's going be a good mix of visual effects related coding and really fun generative art. Check out the outline on the course website and if you have questions, ask away. I love teaching with Houdini as my blackboard, so I hope that comes across in the lessons. I want this course to kick ass; the world is full of boring programming classes and we don't need another! Happy Houdini'n -Shawn PS: XSI gals and guys, wanna learn VEX? I think I know a way... PS:PS: "Houdini'n" - is that a word yet. Can I say that?
