  1. Ocean experts - what is really the difference these days between a Guided Ocean and just a Wave Tank? Are Guided Oceans just legacy and no use anymore? Pros and Cons? Cheers!
  2. Recent work from Chinese animated feature 哪吒 (NeZha), I was responsible for creating and rendering of the water effects using Houdini flip to build a guided system for water and render in Mantra, final compositing done in Nuke.
  3. Hi there, I'm learning how to make guided ocean layer sims and I have a couple of questions: 1 - I'm not familiar with caching system from Houdini. In my guidedoceanlayer_sim I have output name - $HIP/sim/$HIPNAME.`opname("..")`.$SF.sim - first newb question, should I use .sim or .bgeo? 2 - I've copied that name and after saving to disk, I 've pasted as relative references under DOP Network - playback simulation. I should see the sim, but I only see last frame of the sim and a bounding box around boat 3 - Under Ocean Source wavetank I have this expression under center - centroid("../mergefollow", D_Z) - How can I add or subtract a value since I don't need so much detail in the front of the boat and need more at it's back I'm learning Houdini so please be gentle. Thanks!
  4. Hey, I don't know whether this is a bug or not but I can't use two merged ocean spectra with point instancing on them to deform the guided ocean layer. Thats strange because I can object merge this merged spectra and deform a grid. Why is this happening? I want a large ocean to get merged with a flip sim. Not wanting to use the new edge extension system but it would be helpful to have the same spectra be applied on the flip particles as well as on the grid.
