  1. And you may find yourself using Marmoset Toolbag And you may find yourself in another application And you may find yourself behind the wheel of Houdini And you may find yourself with a beautiful door handle, in a beautiful viewport And you may say to yourself My God!... What they have done?! https://vimeo.com/142759892 And you may ask yourself how did he came up with this text And I may find myself Well... Telling you that I ripped it from this beautiful classic song:
  2. Hi. I got two HOWTO questions: 1) In DA you just specify TAB submenu path and you are ready to go, but I can't find anything similar in HDK when I'm adding operator. I suppose it is somewhere in OP_OperatorTable, but which function does that ? I don't see Tab submenu path function there . 2) In python you can pass use_existing_selection=False to the selector and it will not reuse already selected geometry. I can't find the same functionality in HDK selector. There are probably simple solutions for those two questions. Thanks in advance.

    Shadows over loops

    Hi! So we can't have nested foreach() loops? This: int thoseNumbers[] = array(0, 1, 2); int otherNumbers[] = array(3, 4, 5); foreach(int this; thoseNumbers) { foreach(int other; otherNumbers) { } } throws this: warning.WTF? Happy rainy day!
  4. ... Houdini usage for games creation in Europe? Couple years ago there was a post by GuerillaGames, than there is a ben who works in Ubi. I think I saw someone working for EA, but not in Europe. So, are there any other places on the old continent where it's used? How popular it's? Are there many more this kind of jobs than in 2008? Is there a life anymore in Europe or maybe everyone moved their ass to Canada? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Game companies in Europe that are using Houdini: (by type of work, company can be in more than one category) Procedural: Guerilla Games Electronic Arts Sumo Digital Ubisoft Microsoft Soho (I think) VFX: Guerilla Games RARE Criterion Remedy Houdini Engine: Guerilla Games Microsoft Soho (I think) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Game companies in US that are using Houdini: (by type of work, company can be in more than one category) Procedural: Certain Affinity------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ VFX companies in Europe that are using Houdini with game engines: Axis Animation

  7. Hi. I need (free, hopefully) program that will allow me to load audio and easily limit range of frequencies that I can hear. I don't need to save it, I just need it to pick frequencies to drive Trapcode Form and I don't want to set them blindly. Anyone knows something good? Thanks! BTW. I don't want to go thru CHOPS . I need only simple program with a range slider for limiting played frequencies.
  8. Hi. With Visual Studio 2015 released with Python Tools... did anyone succeeded to setup Hython Environment for Python development so it would display more than one level deep of help? With this setup I get standard one "." level deep help: Thanks!

    What if...

    ... there are no tutorials out there that covers things you would like know about Houdini? Maybe there is something you would like to see? Maybe your previous application had some cool tools you would like to have in Houdini? (I'm looking at you, Softimage guys ) Custom Houdini Engine implementation? 40 hours long HDK tutorial that covers whole HDK? How to model and rig banana? Anything else? I need ideas! Post them below, please.
  11. ... is there some deeper story behind this? GUI_PolySoupBox(const GR_RenderInfo *info, const char *cache_name, const GEO_Primitive *prim); and then GUI_PolySoupBox::GUI_PolySoupBox(const GR_RenderInfo *info, const char *cache_name, const GEO_Primitive *prim) : GR_Primitive(info, cache_name, GA_PrimCompat::TypeMask(0)) ?Still not ticking? Lets continue GR_Primitive constructor takes (const GR_RenderInfo* info, const char* cachename, GEO_PrimTypeCompat::TypeMask primitivetype) GUI_PolySoupBox last argument is const GEO_Primitive *prim and we are setting GR_Primitive last argument as GA_PrimCompat::TypeMask(0) I don't see const GEO_Primitive *prim being used anywhere, but I could miss something, so what's the point?Maybe the point of this is to make something like return new GUI_PolySoupBox(info, cache_name, GA_PrimCompat::TypeMask(prim->getTypeId().get())); instead of return new GUI_PolySoupBox(info, cache_name, prim); ?Every GUI example in HDK docs have this. Thanks! BTW: What is this GA_PrimCompat::TypeMask? Is there some enum anywhere with values for this that I can use? BTW2: Looking at GUI_PolySoupBoxHook::createPrimitive(), there is a check for type of the GEO primitive, then we create new GUI_PolySoupBox() so it would be logical to set GA_PrimCompat::TypeMask instead of passing const GEO_Primitive.
  12. Hiya. Just posting some topics from SESI forum, in case you missed them. 1) How to set expression on a label: http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=31792 2) How to switch selector between OP3D*types: http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=31778 3) How to create custom ui gadget: http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=31793 4) How to build group menu for second input: http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=31795 Help!
  13. ... doesn't work with my custom OTLs? When I create "null.py" it gets called, but when I create python file with my OTL operator type as name, it's ignored. Should I put it in different place than for normal nodes? Thanks!
  14. Can it be done? I would like to set some parameters but check some values first. The basic presets just set blindly values, but if we could create presets with python, than it wouldn't be a problem. Or maybe we can add presets with HDK?
  15. In this polycount topic: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=132334 there is one interesting line in main post Now the question is, does it mean that there will be Substance Designer support in Houdini or is it about already existing Unity support? Anyone heard something more?
  16. WTF, right ?! Yeah, I bet your first reaction for this title was the same as my when I saw this number I found this diamond while browsing HDK examples and I would really, REALLY, like to know how I could ever, EVER, possibly figure it out on my own. Basically, you bind selector to operator and this => "0x000000ff" <= is the 8 argument that you pass to "bindSelector()" method as prim/point mask selection. Q1: Is there anyone that could explain me what it means and where I could find more info about it ?. Q2: Are there any other magic numbers that I should be aware of ? Cheers PS. I found it in this example http://www.sidefx.co..._c-example.html
