Shadows on transparent geometry.

Hello, I am trying to get some shadows to cast on a piece of geometry, But I don't want that piece of geometry rendered. (Just the shadows as part of the alpha channel) I have been playing around with shadow matte, but I dont think that is supposed to be used for that purpose after reading Houdini Help. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks.

The Shadow Matte Material is indeed the thing you are looking for. It should do exactly what it is supposed to do ... Display the shadows on it but not the geometry. I dont have time to verify this again, but I remember that only the vexglobalillumination light alone is not casting shadows on a shadow matte plane when there is no other light with shadows turned on in micopolygon mode. So maybe this is the reason it seems not to work for you?
