VEX and renderman Shading Language.

Hi, Can anyone give me a quick run down of the main differences between VEX and Renderman SL. It appears that one goes thru the same processes with either shading systems. I wonder does VEX ( and therefore rending thru mantra) have some particular advantages i should be made aware of.

I imagine that its easier to access special geomety attributes via VEX ?

Lastly does houdinis rman connection let me add object attribues such as facevarying myAttr thru the rib?
