Arnold Volume Displacement tutorial

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I have posted blog post explaining some concepts of volume displacement and how to do it with Arnold (in Houdini but possibly in other packages supporting Arnold as well).

Hope somebody will find it useful.

Hi!

I found your tutorial while googling this topic. This technique would be really useful to me in an upcoming project.

What I'm missing is the end of the tree where you connect the `dis` vector field back to the fog.

Could you perhaps post your resulting hip so we could dissect it?

Another question: I plan to render with MtoA. Is there anything I need to know when setting up the shader in Maya? Or will I use the same fields and corresponding nodes?

Regards,

Martin T

Hi,

sure, check attached file.

As for rendering in MtoA - it should be possible. Just replicate shading network in Maya's node editor and use volumes generated in Houdini.

EDIT: Attached project file.

Juraj... I really love the stop motion quality of that mid-step solution.
Also love the stylized look coming out in the steps thereafter... THANKS.

Hope to play with this more once I get a more basic understanding of houdini.
