novice> background render on single machine?

Recommended Posts

Hi

Was wondering of there is a way to render in the background on the same machine, possibly thru a 3rd party plugin or?

When you say render in the background do you mean using Mantra? You can render through the command line if that's what you want, set half your machine cores to Mantra process and as long as you have enough RAM I would imagine you'd still be able to use your computer.

Wow, didn't think background rendering was possible.

Python is very powerful and flexible. SESI has done an excellent job of integrating it in Houdini. There's not a lot of stuff that isn't possible these days.

You can use hrender from Python. Have a look at the attached HIP file.

Sorry for bumping old thread, but I can't seem to get it working. Upon pressing "Local Render" button the shell window briefly pops up and immediately disappears and no rendering is performed.

This is an example using gnome-terminal on Linux, so you'll need to adapt the command
to the type of terminal you're using... If you're on Windows maybe someone else can help
