Baking textures with renderman

Hello everyone,
I'm pretty new to Houdini and Renderman, so please forgive me if I'm going to ask silly questions.
 
I'm trying to solve the following problem. Given an object in houdini with a renderman material, I'd like to bake the attached material into a texture.
 
My first problem is that I cannot sucessfully bake a texture out of a simple ramp node. I attached a scene I've been playing with today, and for some reason I keep getting a fully transparent tif/exr file as output.
 
Another issue. At first I started working with layers and I'm not sure how I could bake a texture out of a layer node. If you check into risnet1, I'm not sure how I could connect pxrlmglass1 to pxrbaketexture1. Is there a node of some sort? 
 
Any help would be highly appreciated!!!
