how to make smoke like cloth?

I would say that a lot of that video just looked like geometry/cloth sim with some render time subdivision and low opacity. I wouldn't bother going near a smoke sim to make something that detailed and sharp, though maybe you have more patience than me! ;) One option would be to start with geometry and turn it into a volume before rendering, which will help with the softness, but you would probably have to go to quite a high division size to get that level of detail. 

Check out this thread for some examples for the geometry formation - I think between this and some work in the shader/comp you could get there.
