Global Variables for Linux/MacOS file paths

My google-fu is failing so is the there a way to set the a global variable not defined in the .hip file but on the computer?

I want to use a network file path on many file cache nodes on Ubuntu and MacOs. Ubuntu mounts with /mnt/ whilst MacOs mounts with /Volumes/.  Currently I'm setting $NETWORKPATH in the Variables gui window as the full path and when I open the file on each platform I rset the path to be correct manually.
