How to create water?

check out the water sop on this page:

http://odforce.net/codex/geometry.php

also, there's a really cool demo file where a boat is splashing over waves... I belive it's one of the chop demos.

That should get you started....

As far as houdini tutorials, try to get your hand on the apprentice cd. It has a lot of good tutorial videos on it. also, there's some tutorials on this site, and on sidefx.com.

Houdini also comes with a plethora of demo files, located in $HFS/demo ... worth checking out...

Cheers,

Jens

Hey Brain,

Well, you can go down to Santa Monica and ask them for a cd or wait untill SideFX does another presentation somewhere and go down hoping they still give away free cd.

As far as water, you can use the default shaders that should be already installed with houdini and make a really cool looking water.

Now, I never heard of the mentioned demo you were talking about, Jens but thanks for pointing it out to me.

Kat.

Greets,

version 5.0 included the file Jens is talking about

hfs/houdini5.0/demo/OPspecific/CHOPs/Boat

what is the water doing? is it interacting with anything? making generalized motion is fairly simple, but can deffinately get as complex as you want.

check out http://martian-labs.com/ they are developing Hydrous Tools, perhaps this will give you some ideas.

Hi,

I have now a download adress:

http://www.vislab.usyd.edu.au/sidefx/cd2_5...orig_tar_files/

Thanks to all. Now I will look at the demos and tutorials and hopefully will make some good looking water.

Besides is there somewhere a forum where one can see finished work? Found a lot with lightwave but no special forum just for houdini. And in this forum here there seems not to be such a think or I am too stupid to find it.

greets brain,

only other place besides odforce, sidefx.com, and visual paradigms where you can view completed work is in the movies. compared to maya and lightwave, houdini has the smaller user base... either people are too shy to post work or they are under an NDA that forbids it.

i think in this case, size doesnt matter. :)
