"tornado" In The City

Hi all,

This is a digital effects project that I did in 7 weeks for the school [ncca]

I wish I had time to improve it, but I will polish it when I find the time.

Softwares: Houdini, Shake, Photoshop, PfTrack

Houdini Usage:

- Camera Projection

- Sprite Rendering

- Dynamics [debris, bycicle, sattelite dishes]

- Particles [some layers of the tornado, debris, ground dust, ambient elements]

- CHOPs to import the handheld camera data

- Atmospherics for the car lights

- ....

Shake Usage:

- Creating the new Sky

- Adding the lightnings

- Compositing and Colour Correction

Photoshop Usage:

- Matte Painting

- Creating Patches for the Camera Projection

PfTrack:

- Getting the Handheld camera data

I actually spent 1 and a half week to create the whole tornado part.

However I needed to tweak it everytime during the whole project.

But the main system with debris and the birth part took 1 and a half week

nice work. but what i see in sprite tornados in common is,kind of specularity in the body and this realy hurts my eyes. and with this, lot of shots are yelling "i am sprite,i am sprite" if you can eleminate those i am sure the shot will sell itself better than now.

Hi bandit,

Thanx for the comments. Thats obvious the tornado still needs some tweaking in terms of lighting and maybe behaviour, but that was all time related. I am willing to fix the problems as soon as possible [when I find the time].

I only have tests. I attach one.

The main thing I wanted is to have shadows without needing lambertian shading, so the light position doesen't affect the color.

That one looks pretty good, :thumbsup:

getting shadows without using lambertian. sounds a bit tricky.

have you already posted the latest network under any other topic. I'd really like to check it out sometime.

To get shadows without a lightning model you need an iluminance loop. I got the thing looking at the VEX Volume Cloud shader. I attach you a file containing the shader I used in the pictures above.
