If interested in this full time position, which offers full benefits and relocation package, please send a resume to Pamela Thompson, Recruiter, Ideas to Go, PamRecruit@q.com

The Research & Development Technical Director bridges the gap between art and technology. Their primary responsibility is to create and improve efficient, artist-friendly workflows. As a technical problem-solver, the R&D TD will participate in design work, at least peripherally, across the breadth of the entire pipeline. Although the main focus of the R&D TD is on strategic, reusable workflow development, an FX TD will be called on to deliver elements when necessary. This is a position with a focus on character and environmental effects. We are looking for an experienced engineer with an artistic bent or an artist with a strong technical bent, with a solid track record and proven development skill. This position requires a good understanding of natural phenomenon, particle systems, procedural modeling/animation, and other similar effects.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

* Work with production supervisors to translate art direction into deliverable effects

* Design and implement effect systems and processes

* Work with the education group to develop training materials and documentation

* Troubleshoot production problems, and work to minimize their impact

* Seek out and implement new technologies and techniques that will benefit production

* Ensure software development follows studio standards and conventions

Minimum Qualifications and Abilities:

* 3+ years of computer animated feature film experience

* Experience (2+ years) with dynamics simulations and procedural modeling/animation

* Experience (2+ years) scripting in Python, Hscript, C++, and MEL

* Experience (1+ years) working in Linux

* Experience working with Maya and Houdini

* Proven track record of creative solutions to highly technical problems

* Ability to work on a team and independently follow up on direction

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills

* Attention to detail

Preferred Abilities and Knowledge:

* Experience with tool integration into a production pipeline

* Shader writing and API development
