for selecting the points you need to convert the alembic geometry to polygon geometry by using the convert node

Inside the Pop Network on Pop Source node Emission Type should be set to Points or All Points

It will be really hard to tell because you haven't submitted your houdini file. There are two things you can check - in your pyro_import after import_pyrofields you have not any timeblend node where you have set the frames from 1 to 120 - also in your pyro_import after import_pyrofields you have not any timewarp node where you have set the frames from 1 to 120
