  1. What happened to all the fun in the world?
  2. Forgot I posted here as well, and forgot to update it.
  3. Some tests with an in-house character. Evrything (modelling, rigging, animation, shading, rendering) is Houdini + Mantra.
  4. We're using muscles and I find them quite hard to control.
  5. We do quite a bit of animation right now, and animators are liking it. Our scenes are not that complex, but we do experience some of the crashes when animating that you are talking about, and the other issues as well (except for Digital Assets, which I find good). However, animators using it have no experience with other softwares (some of them are 2D animators) so they are not aware of the workflows in Maya. The biggest problem for me, when rigging (I'm not generally a rigger) is skin capture and deformation. I guess I'm totally incompetent (quite likely), but I find it hard to get good deformations.
  6. It will run for sure on the Surface Pro. However, it remains to be seen if anything useful can be done with a config that features an ULV processor (ultra low voltage, that is, less powerful) and 4GB of RAM shared between the system and the graphic card.
  7. It's interesting what you can do for rigging, so I can see demand there (in Houdini). I could also be interesting to have it in Houdini for a TD to be able to use tools already developed for Splice (in a mixed pipeline that would be useful). That would put you in direct competition with Houdini Engine (and that's a good thing). Dragos
  8. SideFx Distilleries: now without any next-day side effects!
  9. Lightworks for Linux public beta: http://www.lwks.com/index.php?option=com_kunena&func=view&catid=19&id=44717&Itemid=81
  10. There's a small typo in the article, in the "Water" section, where VOPs are described as Volume OPerators.
  11. A bit about DOPs workings: http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini12.5/dyno/top10_medium
  12. Lightworks and Piranha make for a good editing & mastering toolset on Linux, for about 1K. Good times.
