Yours didn't work because the loop only had access to one point at a time so when it tried to find its nearest neighbour there was none to be found. So we somehow had to bring in the rest of the points into the loop as well. Attached is an updated version which hopefully makes a bit more sense and is probably a better way of doing it. newLoops_troubles_03.hipnc

Try putting $CEX, $CEY, $CEZ as the pivot in your transform node inside the loop to get each piece to scale from their center.
