  8. Issue with playback simulation on low ram (32gb) pc

fair enough that was just my guess at why it was playing up
  9. Issue with playback simulation on low ram (32gb) pc

32 gigs should not be a problem
  10. Issue with playback simulation on low ram (32gb) pc

Hi thanks for the quick reply My issue is that when I do cache out my sim as a bgeo.sc, it only caches out the first frame I load So if I first view my scene on frame 1030 and then cache out the sequence, it will save out many copies of frame 1030 I know the data is there though as when I just playback the .sim with a file sop then the whole sequence is there, the issue lies in the playback simulation feature. Thanks:)
  11. I want to get the distance of the radius of a circle to a primitive then apply it back to the circle radius. I'm using the pointDist expression to get a primitive on one mesh, followed by the point on the circle then dividing that based on the channel reference of another circle, but the expression is not evaluating ? ch("../circle1/radx")/pointdist("/obj/file1/polyextrude2/",10,"/obj/file1/circle3/",0,2)
  12. thickness to object ?

  13. Calculator a Parabola Curve

Currently the id=1, although using all the points on the curve won't fit well, I understand; but then you mention, I can use a specific subset of points that I want to use and set the id for that subset to 1 (id=1); although the id is already set to an id=1 ? In using a subset, I can set the focus point although still maintain control of the curve if I don't use a subset; as it is currently ?
  14. Hello, I'm new to Houdini and fairly new to 3D modeling and FX fields as a whole. I'm wondering if have external texture maps like color maps, displacement maps, normal maps, etc, if I would be able to somehow apply these to a mesh in Houdini provided it has UV's. I searched a bit to find information on this , but all that I found had to do with created the texture maps within Houdini itself. Hope this isn't too simple of a question!
  15. VEX Function Source Code

As I believe this is built-in function so you can't see implementation of it. For many other noise related stuff, take a look into $HFS/houdini/vex/include. In particular gNoise.h might be interesting for you.
  16. Issues with creating a power blast/beam

Hey, I guess it's made with particles which are blurred in post ! You can make three sims : one which emits constantly for the blast shape, another one which emit every 2-3 frame for the circles that are around the blast and another one with some noise so it adds some turbulence in the blast. I tried an approach but I guess most of the work is done in comp blast.hipnc
  17. VEX Function Source Code

Like xnoise, and other noise functions. Are those in header files?

Hi Peon, Did you ever get a solution? Having exactly same issue. Thanks.
  19. Drop of water simulation flip

Hi!! I'm trying to Drop of water Fx ・Reference movie https://vimeo.com/14054601 https://forums.odforce.net/topic/30773-water-drop-splash/?tab=comments#comment-171664 The conditions I want to do 1.Water droplets are small like sweat 2.I want to make a series of fall and bounce 3.I want to shape like a crown The data I was making is this, but bounce does not work well can you help someone drop_190419.hipnc
  20. Hi, I have 32 RAM aswell. I was helping a person here on ODFORCE with some "ARNOLD" render options etc... Ya that was no able to move in the view port etc... So for me what I did was ROP output the sim to a bgeo sequence. And the loaded it back in with the File node. Also if you export Deleting some attribute that you don´t need the bgeo file size will decrease considerably. However. this is only for viewing purposes. then if you need to tweak etc.. just do the same but manually delete the files. You make another process . Okay it´s just a suggestion okay. I would not consider this something but a PATCH to do something due to the fact that you are experiencing a lack of RAM , Cheers Mangi
  21. VEX Function Source Code

Unless it's implemented in VEX header files (i.e. in VEX), its source is closed. Which one you're interested in?
  22. Calculator a Parabola Curve

This is just an option/example (related to your first picutre). If you don't want to use all points you can filter by id. By default you can use all but usually a curve with degree 2 won't fit good (higher degree has better chance for better fit). If you know you have a specific subset of points you want to use , you can set the id for this subset to 1.

  24. VEX Function Source Code

Is there a way to find the source code for a specific built-in VEX function?

  26. thickness to object ?

polyExtrude SOP with backface is not working for you?
  27. thickness to object ?

This question has been asked before but the thread I found on the subject I can't seem to copy; that is, how do I add thickness to an object ?
  28. Hi Guys I have a fairly high res flip sim (by student standards, about 3 gig per frame) and I needed to cache it out as a .sim to utilise checkpoints I need to read this simulation in using playback simulation on the dopnet and a dop IO node with the flip presets in order to pull in the velocity fields for a whitewater sim, however when I do this the computer gets stuck on the first frame I load in. My only current solution is to go through every frame, unticking and reticking the playback simulation button which would take me 2 minutes of load time per frame for 432 frames. An alternative I've considered is the Houdini python module however I am not familiar with this and don't know if the required functions exist. Please could someone with more knowledge on this tell me if this is possible in the python module or whether there is an alternate solution such as a way to pull velocity fields from a .sim cache Thanks George
