  1. Realistic ice melting effect

    You could use something like this It's a flip corrosion setup that eats away at a vdb. I haven't had time to look at that .hip yet however I'd imagine that you'd be able to instance that solid object as an animated object that could even have feedback dynamics on the flip sim. The simplest approach would be to take that kind of setup and just gradually spawn flip particles on the surface. As they eat away at the surface you could spawn more flip particles in the cracks, thus adding to the melting effect. Like I said, haven't had time to check the .hip posted there myself yet so I might be totally off. The approach seems more stable and solid than just messing with viscosity.

    Why has nobody mentioned CHOPS? You can easily do this little bit of wobble with the jiggle op. Used this for a lot for adding a little bit of extra motion to characters. Simple and easy without the overheads of a sim. Hip attached. belly wobble_CHOPS.hip

    So things have started to die down a bit nearing the end of the year at my studio here and it's prime time to mess with co-workers. I'm looking for Houdini / Linux specific pranks to pull when they step away from their machines to get coffee. I've started by adjusting the interface colors down to absolute 0 . This makes the UI totally useless and you're forced to fumble around to get back to the menu. It's amusing to watch. Best technique is to open a secondary instance and adjust it there then close that instance. The blackness will only strike once they relaunch their current houdini. . . enough time to evade suspicion. So anyone else have any ideas? Something that repeatedly turns the interface bright pink would be great.
  5. HQueue guide for idiots

    Ok. Now I feel even worse. For anybody encountering these same issues. DISABLE YOUR FIREWALL. So simple, flicking the switch on the firewall for the server seemed to fix all my issues. All the clients register now, humming along happily. . . . now to go and purchase a new dunce cap for myself.
  6. Greetings, I've had some down time and decided I'd attempt to get HQueue to work on the couple of machines we have here. NOPE. Somehow I can get the Server set up on a machine and the Client on that same machine will register in the web interface but none of the other machines will register. All windows 7 machines, all clean installs of HQueue client and Server. Can someone make a HQueue setup for idiots? I've read through the official instructions it doesn't really offer anything other than the bare basics of what to install. Example of my setup now - Server-PC 192.168.0.1 running server and a client, client works fine it seems. Port 5000 Slave01-PC 192.168.0.2 running just the client, and installed and pointed to "Server-PC" in the ini. What am I doing wrong? Is there anything else I HAVE to have installed? Am I missing a step? The guide makes it seem as though that's all I need to do. Both systems have working versions of Houdini on them already.
  7. Normalize the Velocity of an animated Bird

  8. I'm trying to normalize the velocity of an animated Bird. (not sure if normalize is the right word) The bird was animated to flap and fly along a path in XSI then exported to alembic. I want to emit fluids off the bird using the wing flap velocity WITHOUT using the velocity of the bird body moving through space. How would I go about getting rid of the forward velocity? I tried using a centroid point to subtract from the bird velocity in a VOP with hopes that it would leave me with only the flapping velocity but no luck there. I've attached a file with an example setup. Any help would be appreciated, I think I'm missing something simple. normalize bird velocity_v01.hip
