Software Developer: Computer Vision & Mocap - Digital Domain Vancouver Job Title: Software Developer: Computer Vision & Mocap Department: Technology Reports to: Global Production Technology Supervisor Status: Exempt Classification: Full Time (Staff) Purpose of the job: The Software Developer: Computer Vision and Mocap will help to create leading edge tools for performance capture and character creation. With multiple motion capture facilities including advanced facial capture suites, Digital Domain needs software developers with experience in both computer vision, motion capture and character animation. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: • Design, implement, and support C++ and Python tools, primarily for Maya but also potentially standalone, that relate to character animation and motion capture • The developer will be expected to: gather requirements from the artists, research and develop a plan of attack, implement a stand-alone program or plug-in (using C++ or Python), document the code and produce a user manual, and release and support the tool. • The ability to interact with non-technical people and both understand what they want, and get them to understand what you are doing, is necessary • Experience with any or all of character animation, motion capture, real-time processing and/or GPU programming is not required but would be a plus Qualifications: Education and/or Experience Required: • At least a Master’s Degree in Computer Science / Math / Physics • Adept in both C++ and Python • Experience with Maya- both using Maya, and writing Maya plug-ins • Experience with the latest in computer vision. A candidate should be comfortable with optimization techniques (like bundle adjustment) and image processing. • A solid foundation in mathematics. This job will require that you be able to read, understand, implement and make improvements on the latest research. You should be able to read a paper from SIGGRAPH and understand it. Specifically, understanding of optimization techniques and calculus is essential. • A broad knowledge and curiosity about computer graphics is very important. We solve many, varied problems at Digital Domain. This job will not be about just computer vision and motion capture. An ideal candidate should have most/all of these skills at the ready: • Experience with character and facial rigging. Senior Media Systems Engineer - Digital Domain Vancouver Department: Media Systems Reports to: Chief Engineer Status: Exempt Classification: Full Time Purpose of the job: The Senior Media Systems Engineer assists the Chief Engineer in a variety of maintenance and help-desk tasks. The role requires interacting on a daily basis with artists and production staff to make sure that they are able to complete their own tasks with a minimum of down time or confusion. The successful candidate will work with display systems, video editing and archiving systems, as well as digital projection, and computer systems to accomplish these goals. An aptitude for electronics, displays and computers are essential. Experience in managing and maintaining cross site multi-location media system setups is also key. An outgoing, helpful manner will go a long way. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: • Monitor calibration, including desktop HP Dreamcolors and all Plasma/LED TVs • Verifying that all view station room equipment is working on a daily basis • Verifying the integrity of all conference room equipment on a daily basis • Maintain projection room equipment as required • Collaborate with Editorial staff to create Avid archives; restore jobs as requested by Vid-I/O and Editorial staff • Be the Admin for the Avid Unity: install and/or remove partitions as needed, set user permissions, etc. • Perform Avid upgrades or downgrades as needed, including adding/deleting users from each workstation • Be the point person for the conference rooms and view rooms, be responsible for user training where needed, escalate problems to the appropriate departments as needed. • Some wiring and assembling of audio and video equipment, as required. Qualifications: Education and/or Experience Required: • A specific degree is not required; however, an electronics-related degree would be useful. Senior Asset Management Development Engineer - Digital Domain Vancouver Job Title: Senior Asset Management Development Engineer Department: Technology Reports to: Global Production Technology Supervisor Status: Exempt Classification: Full Time, Staff Purpose of the job: Digital Domain is seeking a Pipeline Engineer to design, build and maintain the next generation of our proprietary asset management system, and its APIs. This system controls how artists find, use and transfer film production assets both locally, and to other locations. Experience designing database-driven applications is required. The position involves mostly supporting Linux, as well as some Windows, and systems in a high-availability multi-site environment. Most of the work is in Python, but the ability to compile and install proprietary and open-source packages is useful. This work will be done in small teams, often across site boundaries. This software environment is fast paced and varied, with customers located on-site or in other locations; given that, strong problem-solving and communication skills are required. Pipeline Technical Director - Digital Domain Vancouver Location: Vancouver, BC Summary: Pipeline Technical Directors are responsible for improving the overall efficiency of the facility-wide production pipeline. They design, implement, and manage tools that assist the digital artists with their daily use of both third party and in-house software and systems. These tools are intended to make the computer graphics production as efficient and productive as possible. Pipeline TDs work with peers and supervisors to craft novel tools, techniques, and procedures to aid the execution of the current project and advance the capabilities of the facility. The role requires strong technical and communication skills, as well as a firm understanding of software design, graphics, and production work flow. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Work with other TDs and artists to help design and create tools to be integrated into Digital Domain's existing pipeline.
