  1. Heightfields on Mac

It's unlikely, but maybe the failure stems from the OpenCL device specified in Preferences > Miscellaneous. Seems you'd see computation errors all over the place if GPU incompatibility were involved, though.
  2. Houdini + ZBrush

Alexey, Have you had the opportunity to target this utility on a macOS environment yet? My attempt to use OTL version Z 1.2 + Houdini 17.0.416 + ZBrush 2018.1 + macOS 10.14.2 has not been successful, usually causing either application to crash. It might just be a matter of specifying a properly-formatted application path as the exec_path value, but none of the variations I've tried seem to work properly. Note that GUI-based executables can behave a bit differently on macOS than on Linux. For example, here are some ways to launch an application from the command line: /usr/bin/open -b com.apple.textedit /usr/bin/open -a /Applications/TextEdit.app /usr/bin/open -n ./TextEdit.app --args -AppCommandLineArg /Applications/TextEdit.app/Contents/MacOS/TextEdit&
  3. Polywire SOP.. non uniform line radius possible?

I'm not sure about Polywire, but the Sweep SOP could handle such variation, as it already knows about the "pscale" point attribute. Either with a ramp-driven point wrangle, or something like MOPs Sweep Spline, if available. float ramp_pos = fit(float(@ptnum), 0, @numpt, 0, 1); f@pscale = chramp('Sweep_Profile', ramp_pos); Wrangle: Sweep:
  4. Just another laptop question

I'm not sure about HP's production quality these days, but their recently announced ZBook x2 looks intriguing from a performance standpoint. http://www8.hp.com/us/en/campaigns/workstations-x2/
  5. Depending on your needs, it might just be as simple as dragging a parameter into a 3D viewport. That provides a persistent HUD slider that displays current value information. http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/basics/hud_sliders
  6. menu pan/scroll with wacom pen?

I had hopes that adoption of newer versions of Qt would resolve this issue. Wouldn't surprise me if the problem is mostly Wacom's fault. Technically, there is a way to enable MMB panning within parameter panels using Wacom's "Pan/Scroll" navigation setting. But doing so also breaks MMB navigation in 3D and network viewports altogether. The limitation would be easier to accommodate if Houdini offered more flexibility for viewport input remapping, like Blender, Modo, and almost everything else out there.
  7. H16 missing checkerboard

You may be thinking of the UV Quick Shade SOP node: https://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini/nodes/sop/uvquickshade
  8. Mini Houdini for iOS?

I don't know if the spin-off product TouchDesigner shares any of its DNA with modern Houdini, but its tablet-oriented interface shows there could be potential there. http://www.derivative.ca/ In the meantime, something like Astropad or Foundry's upcoming Elara might be able to mimic a native experience. (Astropad Studio hampered Houdini’s viewport frame rate the last time I tried, but performs admirably in other programs.) http://astropad.com/ http://elara.io/
  9. Looks nice. Previous version available on Gumroad sales platform, if anyone missed it: https://gumroad.com/alexeyvanzhula
  10. Houdini Console

You can also type 'commandecho on' in the Textport to log operations as they occur in the node network. https://houdinitricks.com/echo-hscript-commands-houdini/
  11. Though light on specifics, here's a fairly recent overview of the terrain process Ubisoft has employed with similar principles: https://80.lv/articles/procedural-world-building-in-ghost-recon-wildlands/
  12. Might have been "OnCreated.py" from 2010: http://forums.odforce.net/topic/12280-colour-codes/?do=findComment&comment=81304
  13. Looks promising. Vaguely reminds me of that visually-oriented language project Luna that debuted early last year. http://www.luna-lang.org
  14. Alt-duplicate nodes wires

Not that I've seen. But you can set up a new keyboard shortcut that mimics that behavior. For example, alt-space to sever the inputs of the newly cloned nodes. Almost feels like a regular modifier key that changes the default duplication behavior.
  15. Some network recommendations are available in the Houdini 15.5 docs, if anyone hasn't seen them. Possibly still relevant. Written by Ari “Particle Kabob” Danesh, I believe. http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini15.5/network/best_practices
