  1. FEM flesh rip

Hi. I was wondering if anyone has experience with making flesh rip with fem. Problem that I encounter is that solid objects always are made from tets, and it`s hard to get rid of this edginess. Any tips how to avoid that and achieve something like Erik Ferguson is making? Here`s how far I am. Few screens and a hip. Any help/advice appreciated! Thanks FEM_test_05.hip
  2. FLIP Collision and behaviours

haha Flippedy done with that finally
  3. FLIP Collision and behaviours

    Wassup Dan. #fliplife
  4. FLIP Collision and behaviours

best thing to do is make a basic scene and do bunch of wedges with changing those parameters. But to answer question. Physical parameters for static object is for static one. as you can have more than one static object in scene with different bounce and so on. And flip physical properties are for the flip. If I`m not mistaken. Cheers Janis
  5. Missile launch in Houdini

As mentioned substeps will help you out. Also you can try motion blur on fluid source node. So your source is already like smoke trail. that would fill up the gaps as well. Mix it up with some substeps and you`re good to go.
  6. Missile launch in Houdini

That course is looks great! Have you done it already? Cheers Janis
  7. RAM cleanup

Is there a way to clear RAM from houdini caches? Basically I`m using read node to read in flip particles and volumes. then meshing, setting up whitewater source etc. After a while RAM is just full and cache manager just help a bit there`s always 20-50 Gb RAM still being used by houdini after that. running Houdini 16 on Linux. Cheers Janis
  8. RAM cleanup

    permission denied for this one
  9. RAM cleanup

Cache manager helps a bit. Bit cleans up just a bit. I bet there`s something I can type in Linux terminal that could clear some RAM. just don\t know what exactly.
  10. RAM cleanup

It`s hard to just let it do it`s think. If I want preview displaced whitewater. but run out of RAM and then need to restart everything. For example I had 70 Gb of RAM used. now even after clearing cache. ok theres still some left. but closer to end of the day I will have restart Houdini just to avoid running out of RAM. Cheers
  11. Can`t find post. Pyro

    Exactly!!! Cheers Paul
  12. Can`t find post. Pyro

Anyone remembers in which topic one of the Grand Masters of Houdini explained PYRO quite nicely: disturbance, incoming velocities, getting rid of mushroom look, etc. Was a quite long answer and very useful, unfortunately I`ve lost the link to it. So if anyone knows what I`m talking about, help me out. Cheers Janis
  13. Voxelised Fluid

Looks nice, but what happened to fps?
  14. Motion graphics/ Houdini, Cinema 4D, Arnold

Thanks Sim wise - Flip, Pyro and Shortest path growth from Entagma is done in Houdini, everything else Cinema 4d. Had some more tests with FEM and other solvers, but just couldn't get them to place I wanted before the deadline. I love Houdini, but it's so fast to set up everything in C4D.
  15. Made this little motion graphics intro with Houdini and C4D, rendered in Cinema 4d with Arnold
  16. Arnold, houdini, ocean

Found the problem. Geo node that I used for rendering was made in Houdini version without Arnold. So there was no Arnold tab there with visibility options. Damn
  17. Arnold, houdini, ocean

Hi I`m trying to render ocean surface with Arnold in Houdini. But I just can\t get the transparency to work. In maya there`s checkbox Opaque for the render grid. I can`t seem to find it in Houdini. Thanks in advance Janis
  18. Help With Ocean Surface

more resolution would, probably, fix the problem. More particles in the sim. and the n the meshing would be more accurate.
  19. solver x collider matrix would be amazing!
  20. Voxel resolution effect on simulation behaviour

this hsould be in General Houdini Questions but quick answer is that it always happens when you decrease voxel size. 2 options: *do tests in resolution closer to real one *use volume upres dop with low res sim to ass resolution
  21. I'm confused about a School

Don`t know nothing about 3d industry in Denmark, but I bet you have some nice studios there, for adds I`m guessing. If you are thinking about the film industry, and want to work on big projects, you should probably be willing to relocate. (UK, Canada, Australia, some studios in Germany and France). Choose tutorials online to follow, make few good shots (just make your own versions, not 1/1 from tut) and try to apply to places. But I would still probably try school or college, as there you can experiment a lot. And some schools help their student to get in to industry. As looking at your work. If you want to be a modeller then probably go with maya as that is industries standard. Fx - houdini (good to know maya as well) Also watch some tutorials about rendering, and how to make your stuff look great. Try Arnold, Renderman. I`m using Arnold now. Love it.
  22. I'm confused about a School

This one looks way better. http://www.3dcollegedenmark.dk/
  23. I'm confused about a School

I didn`t finish any animation/3d school and work in FX. To be honest a lot of people that work in 3D have degrees in different fields or don`t have any. If you choose to study, do a proper research if spending all that money for education is really necessary. But don`t get me wrong, studying in university is a good time in your life. I studied structural engineering and never regretted it. Student life has is perks
  24. Unfortunately I can`t upload any photos or .hips at work. But I`ll try to explain what worked for me. If you are working with vdbs. make vdb visualizetree sop. change parameters so you get just points representing the volume. Than make point sop. In first input plug in points in second plug in vdb volume. Inside the vop make volume sample vex node. Connect filename to OpInput2. and pos to sample pos. this node will output density value for each point. And from here you can do pretty much what ever you need. Bind export density value for each point of just make ramp and output that to Cd. have fun Cheers
