  1. Hey. I was wondering why this doesn't work or how I should make it work. If I want to see a my take in the Render View it seems I need to be in that take also in the viewport and stuff, even tho I have selected that take in my mantra node. Thank you!
  2. Hi, I've made this post before: But I am still confused and this has become a new question altogether, and the thread seems dead too, so here is a new post. How do I use groups in stylesheets to use in Cryptomatte? I would like a somewhat detailed explanation, as I don't really understand what's up with User Properties, how this connects to groups, how I should read anim's comment Posted Tuesday at 01:15 AM, and how I can use the stylesheets for group mattes without overriding the original materials. Would really appreciate your help. Thanks.
  3. Rendering different groups as passes?

Please someone help. I am just confused here. How do I get these 'string attributes' that I apparently should be able to use as user properties in a Cryptomatte layer? When I use the 'name's generated for the groups by the name SOP in the CryptoMatte, it doesn't work. And it seems the Attribute Create SOP to create a string attribute for my groups doesn't work either. When I put these attribute names in the Property parameter of a Cryptomatte layer, the layer shows up but it doesn't seem to have any white mattes in it. Edit: I've made a new post for this now:
  4. Rendering different groups as passes?

Oh do you mean the instancing example of the SideFX Documentation? Do I need to understand the 'Render property' and 'Inline Script' stuff for this Group/Cryptomatte/Stylesheet method?
  5. Rendering different groups as passes?

I'm now going deeply into investigation on what Stylesheets are and how they work: Does this second method you've mentioned also involve Stylesheets or is it something different? Which example do you mean with string attribute? The first example (aov.hiplc) does it with float attributes. And with the first (Stylesheet) method, would the group mattes just appear in the CryptoMaterial layer? Or do you need to make a material for every group? I would like the object to have one material but more group mattes. Doesn't the matte styles override the material?
  6. Rendering different groups as passes?

Ah I see. And is all the stuff discussed in this thread also applicable to CryptoMatte? How would you get a group cryptomatte layer? It doesn't work with VEX Variable it seems?
  7. Rendering different groups as passes?

Allright, got it. But how would you do this when you have something like a Principled shader? Or multple different shaders? I think that Material Builder in these files just needs to applied to the geometry, right? Also: Can you only output an alpha? In the past i think i got an colored output of the object ID's just as it was in the normal render. But i might be wrong about this. (Got no access to that exr right now)
  8. Rendering different groups as passes?

I tried to recreate that file and as far as i know i have the same settings, but it doesn't work. Do you maybe know what i do wrong? AOV namaken.hipnc How would you do that? I can't specify a path to my /obj/grid_object1 in the geometry file parameter. And: do you also need to bind export that? Thanks u both! And sorry for my noobness, haha.
  9. Hi! I have in the past done rendering with object ID's in 3DS Max with which i could simply isolate these objects in AE, but the stuff i find about this with Houdini is quite confusing to me. I would like some basic instructions. How do i have different passes in which only (the visible of) an object is visible? I would like these objects to be certain groups that are extant in my SOP level. Help would really be appreciated!
  10. (Sorry there was a bug in Odforce there: couldn't edit or type in that comment, had to sent) Anyways.. I mean something like this: So not only over that whole line, but really from an outside source. But i didn't know about the width attribute yet.. How would you do that?
  11. Hi! I have a little experience with attributes and VEX now. I've used the color of some object to transfer color to an other object or to change pscale of other points. But now i've come across a difficult problem, and i was wondering if there is some mysterious new thing in Houdini i don't yet yet that could help me with this. I have animated 4 boxes and i have connected these boxes with a dashed line. The thickness of the lines is controlled by a circle which is the input of 6 sweeps. Since i want to separate the controls for the 2 middle lines (in the grey red boxes) and the 4 outside lines (in the grey network boxes), i've created two transform nodes. While i was on the result below, i realised i wanted the thickness of the lines to be controlled by a gradient, like i've done before with color and pscale (attributetransfer), instead of with keyframing. (this screenshot has copied timeshifts) But this is a hard problem because the thickness is controlled so early in the network. So i wonder if there is a way i could do this? If there exists some way i could control the thickness of the line after the sweep with the gradient/color attribute i've created in the node called 'gradient'? AttributeToParameter__.hipnc (mentioned nodes colored red) Would really appreciate your help.
  12. Hi! When i work on my Mac's retina with Houdini i set its preference to High DPI. When i use Houdini on my QHD display, i set it to compact. I'm working on my first complex project now and i would like to use both at the same time now. But even (while on the compact preference with the main window on my QHD) when i put a floating window on my retina with "Larger Text" as a display setting in my Mac prefs, the floating window still is way to small. How do i combine these two displays? Thanks in advance.
  13. Hi! This color comes up in my scene suddenly. Never seen it before. Could anyone tell me what it means? Thanks.
  14. Random value every iteration in ForEachLoop

Nice. I was now playing around with combining this with $F and came as far as this: fit(rand(detail(-1,"iteration",0)+$F), 0, 1 , 0, 360) How could i make this go slower? when i divide it at the end, it's not from 0 to 360 anymore. I also want them to start at a totally random position.
