Getting the shape was relatively straight forward after messing around with the Entagma tutorial. I have attached the file for you. I dont know how he achieved the smooth transitions through subdivision levels tho. Maybe someone else can figure that out. HolmedalIcoso.hipnc

@AtomThanks Atom. Can this hold a velocity attribute? Im trying to create this effect inside a torus

Im pretty new to houdini and im trying to create a vector volume inside a torus. It sounds so simple but im struggling to figure out how to do it. The volume sop is super easy to use and allows you to choose a vector volume. Unfortunately, the volume is only defined within a cube. How can I achieve the same set up inside a torus?

@JurajThanks man, I will give that a shot!

Im still new to houdini but Ive created renders using volume trails after following a couple of online tutorials. For example, my render is the one with the trails running over the white surface. If you look at the one done with the blue background (created by the guys over at Deskriptiv.de), they have somehow gotten the trails to form to the numbers 05 13. It looks super cool and im not quite sure how they did this. If anyone wants my scene file, I have uploaded it but im sure most of you on this forum know how to create the effect. Rendered in octane. dopecurlsvolume.hiplc

Displace along normal until a volume is filled?

@dchow1992 Woah dude, youre the man. Thats exactly what I was trying to do! -
Displace along normal until a volume is filled?
Slimesunday posted a topic in General Houdini Questions
Still learning here but hang with me. I have a torus which I have thrown into a solver then into a point vop. Im using Cd to control the amount of displacement over time. It creates a cool growing effect but I don’t want this to grow infinitely larger; I want to control the growth by having it fill the volume of another torus. I tried setting the secondary torus to Cd = 0 and then transfering that attribute to the displacement channel but my attempts are failing. Does anybody have any idea how to use the secondary torus as a boundary? or even better have it eventually fill the torus? .hip file is attached vornoi_growth.hiplc -
EXPORT VOLUME TRAILS INTO CINEMA 4D
Slimesunday replied to vlb6's topic in General Houdini Questions
use ROP output sop and save your file as .abc. When you import into c4d make sure to check import as splines. Dont make the object editable keep it in alembic format. -

Effect pscale by using black white values in turbulent noise.

Guys im a noob x 20. I used an attribute vop to effect Cd and applied a turbulent noise to the surface of a sphere. I now want to copy a bunch of spheres to the surface of the other sphere and effect the radius of the copied spheres by using the black white values in the turbulent noise (i.e. white = .1 and black = 0). Accidental duplicate post, sorry. -

@caskal here is another set up using a point vop and curl noise, giving you some more control over the noise on the surface. curlshiznat.hiplc

Im running octane is C4D w/ a nvidia gtx titan. Its absolutely insane how quickly you can dial in the render in realtime. On the other hand one GPU isnt going to save you all that much in your final render. Render times will still be similar to your native render engine (but youll get to a finalized render faster because you can work in realtime). If your super rich and want to buy 5 GPUs, your render times will be insanely quick.
