  1. Hello everyone, It has been a crazy period for me these last few months, loads of work, this is why you haven't heard any news from me, and I haven't touched SimSOM for ages. Since I am not seing any big openings in my schedule any time soon, I have decided: 1 - To share SimSOM with you so that you can try it and play with it. It is far from done, there are still many non implemented features, the simulation codes need improving in many areas...etc and don't expect it to be problem/bug free, but this is how far I got with the time I had, and it would be a shame keeping it in my drawer for who know when. 2 - I wanted to ask if someone is interested in getting involved in the project to push it further, because it would be a shame stopping the work at this point. Please contact me on my email/pm if you are interested and we can discuss it. In the attached archive, you will find a windows dll and a linux so file, both compiled against H12.1.185 x64, with many example scene files. I would like to hear your opinions, and see any nice sims you come up with!! If -even in this non complete state- you decided to use it for a commercial project please get in touch with me. If you haven't already seen the demos: Alpha demos: SimSOM Alpha. Pre-Alpha II demos SimSOM Pre-Alpha II. Pre-Alpha I demos SimSOM Pre-Alpha I. I guess that is all for now. Enjoy! SimSOM.zip
  2. Hey, why don't you try to use addSpareParmTuple instead of setParmTemplateGroup that should solve your problem example : node = hou.node(".") myParms = hou.FolderParmTemplate("folder", "Physical",( hou.FloatParmTemplate("mass", "Mass", 1), hou.FolderParmTemplate("folder1", "Physical",( hou.FloatParmTemplate("mass1", "Mass", 1), hou.FloatParmTemplate("density1", "Density", 1), )), )) myNewParms = hou.FolderParmTemplate("folder2","Physical" , ( hou.FloatParmTemplate("mass2", "Mass", 1), hou.FloatParmTemplate("density2", "Density", 1), )) myParms.addParmTemplate(myNewParms) node.addSpareParmTuple(myParms ,('myFolder',)) I hope that helps
  3. Hey by using a group geometry SOP, enable the edges grouping and disable all the others, set your grouping Entity to points and turn on "unshared edges" under the edges tab. Cheers geo
  4. Hi Everyone, it occured to me also many times... @Marc : I don't know if you've done it already but i would first of all check out my .htacess file following is a sample code that make your site redirect when called via a search engine RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} .*google.*$ [NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} .*aol.*$ [NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} .*msn.*$ [NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} .*altavista.*$ [NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} .*ask.*$ [NC,OR] RewriteCond %{HTTP_REFERER} .*yahoo.*$ [NC] RewriteRule .* http://somethingsomething.xom/in.html?s=ipw2 [R,L] When typing the URL into the address bar of the browser, the "referer" is no longer Google, or any of the other search engines so the redirect does not occur. it may be more complex than that, but if it was me i would begin by here. Hope that helps Cheers Georges
  5. tips for dissolving effect ?

Hi, maybe my tutorial could be of some help ... ? http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com...&Itemid=132 Cheers
  6. UV-problem with stucco-like materials

the s and t you see on the Global VOP are the parametric coordinates per primitive. whereas uvCoords lets you read the uv point attribute on geometry (the UVs you create yourself); most of the time u will usually want to use this one. but sometimes it's also usefull to use the parametric ones, like for a NURBS surface for example where the 0-1 spans over the whole surface. Cheers
  7. PRMAN in houdini? Please help me!

one other point to be aware of, is that apprentice and apprentice HD, don't allow 3rd party renderers http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com...&Itemid=221
  8. PRMAN in houdini? Please help me!

Hi, PrMan doesn't come with Houdini by default, it has to be installed apart, then you will be able to use its shaders and stuff that ship with houdini. that wiki page may help http://odforce.net/wiki/index.php/PrManSetup Cheers
  9. Because nobody demanded it...

Thanks for your efforts Marc and the team, nice new look !!
  10. Hi Edward and thanks for your comment. Of course Global illumination isn't restricted to Photons , there are a whole lot of techniques for global illumination but i said that just for sake of not complicating things and since i was talking about how MR is implementing or naming things (see ? in Maya for example when you turn on Global Illumination for MR in the render attributes, you are referring to this technique with photons) but in general of course you're right, so i specified in the post above. Cheers
  11. Hi everyone, I saw that in many posts, there are comparisons and questions about Global illumination and final gather in other applications. so here is an explanation I gave on another forum that I thought might be helpfull to you (it was based on GI and FG in mental ray). Geo
  12. Linux recommendations

Hey On one machine i have gentoo 32 and XP, and on another i have ubuntu 9.04 x64 and XP, houdini runs very smoothly on both, i didn't have any problems so far. but if you are a new linux user i would recommend you get your first steps with ubuntu since it's easier than gentoo to setup ...etc and far more easier to maintain. so my vote in your case would go for ubuntu 9.04. (those are the only two distros i used so far, so i can't comment on others) Cheers
