  1. material id render

J.Santos I work at an archviz company and wile i'm more of an animator/previz guy i'm quite sure we don't use max's MatID or ObjectIDS for anything other that stills, we use VrayOBJ_IDS and in other cases some custom masks. VrayOBJ_ids separates in simple RGB using the correct renderer antialiasing, and makes-it simple to separate the objects, by channel, even at the blured edges. We just use for example, one rgb image plane for 3 diferent trees, another for the cars, 3d char and props, and so on. The time you gain not having to select by color but simply separating the channel makes up for the extra disk space and the negligible if any render time hit. Plus, i'd have to ask the compositor but I think it's plain impossible to separate the object using max matids in animated sequences, because of the antialiasing and the odd colours at the edges if you have lets say a purple object over a yelow one
  2. material id render

OH... so you whant to separate by material not by object, didn't get that, sory. I don't know how to do that either
  3. material id render

Have you tried exporting the op_id image plane ? http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=11229&highlight=object
  4. On this article http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=1937&Itemid=68 they describe how they render the difuse colour and a white difuse separately. Can I replicate that with mantra surface? I dont know what parameters to export for the white difuse.
  5. 3D-Coat Applink

Testing the applink on osx I get this error: Traceback (most recent call last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module> File "opdef:/Object/coat_file_out?PythonModule", line 385, in go IOError: (13, 'Permission denied', '\\Users\\Cordeiro\\3D-CoatV3\\Exchange\\import.txt') Any ideia how to fix it ? Thanks
  6. Joaquim's Master Project

Hey Joaquim, that's looking promissing keep it up
  7. hotbin_osx_H11.0.701_1.0rc9

Thank's just in time for following Varomix video
  8. Houdini Hip Tricks Volume One and Two

The site appears to be down, can anyone confirm ? The twitter feed says their'r in Vegas so I guess that explains-it EDIT: Ok, it's back now
  9. PBR artifact - white dots on image

Try to turn down the color limit in the Pbr options. check the bottom lines of : http://www.sidefx.com/docs/houdini11.0/rendering/pbr
  10. Art and explosions

This is a video from a portuguese band called Orelha negra featuring Vhils , a street artist who uses explosives for art. Explosion + Art = Houdini crowd must like
  11. Advice for large scale ocean

Could you separate the foreground from the background ? Like doing a hires sim for the foreground and blend-it in post with a lowres background or even a mate-painting or footage ? It really depends on the shot, usually you don't need much detail at the horizon line, especially if the day is hazy.
  12. Learning Mantra

Hi neonbulbs80 , I'm still researching on this, the render time must have been about 3 hours for the last image, utterly unacceptable I know but i'm certainly doing all kinds of mistakes . I'm using a low detailed and highly filtered Photon map this is probably where the over exposition comes from. I found that photon maps + pbr give noise free results except in reflective surfaces. I'm afraid I can't help you out as I'm struggling myself but I'll point you to some discussions I'm reading attentively. http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=20382&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight= http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_forum&Itemid=172&page=viewtopic&t=21548&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=
  13. Learning Mantra

Yes i'm usin a portal light with the window's glass as geometry, I'll make sure to check if I missed something, thanks for the tip. Right now I'm looking for solutions for gi caching with Mantra Pbr and looking at what factors can slow donw a render.
  14. Learning Mantra

Ok, for a test scene I think I'm where I want, still need to fix some Uvs, the problem with the carpet and really optimize the shaders, all standard mantra surface for now. I like the look you can get with Pbr, the realistic glows and such, it looks quite rich even before post. I really need to optimize though as I would like to try and render a test animation. Maybe I should try to reproduce the render in Micropoligon rendering ? Any tips are welcome . This is the render straight from Mantra, no post
  15. Learning Mantra

Thank's I tried that and it saved half an hour with very similar results.
