  2. I don't know why but whenever I try to click on "Render to Disk" in Mantra ROP, it starts background rendering even though I didn't click on "Render to Disk in Background". Does anyone know why is this happening ? I don't want to put rendering in background.
  3. No shadows on tiles

    Hi, my problem is that I cannot create shadows on my tiles. test.01.hip Whenever I render with Arnold and a skydome light, there are no shadows on my tiles. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  4. Smoke not visable

    Hi All, for my uni project created this satellite destruction. I have attached the billowy smoke pre-set to the Debris source and it does not show in viewport or render view? But as I don't have any error messages I can't figure out why it won't show... All and any help in the right direction would be appreciated as my deadline is next month! Ill attach both files above.   5. Hello, I'm brand new to Houdini and have been working on a "shockwave" effect and I have just looked in the Render View and there was only black screen. Then I tried to actually render it but it would still only show a black screen. I've attached some images below to show the issues that I'm having. This is my Network inside of a Geometry.   7. Hello people! I'm currently trying to render pyro exoplosion with the motion blur in Redshift and I didn't succeed with any of my aproaches. I tried Convert to VDB , and then Merge Volume in Velocity mode with the motion blur ON but nothing works yet. I found few HIP examples but they neather don't work. Is there anybody who ever did this? Too bad there's nothing about it in the Redshift official documentation too. Please help

    Does mantra do not have a motion vector pass? If so how to render it? Every explanation I found on internet is quite old from 2009 I can only hope there are new methods to do this, right? Any help will be appreciated.
  9. Subdivision render artifact

    after the subdivide node you can see these star shaped polygons appear and as a result produce render artifacts. How can i fix this? subdivision is not really needed in the center of the circular polygon but mostly on its edges so that they get rounded along with the rim.
  10. Hello! I need some help to understand how to use some string expressions, I'm using Redshift ROP and I want to change the render paths on some AOVs using the Custom File Prefix from each AOV. I want they will be saved on the same folder like the main output path but with other names. So, I'm using this string for the main render path: RS ROP output file name prefix: $HIP/render/$HIPNAME/$HIPNAME.$AOV.$F3.exr And I was trying to use this expression for AOV custom path: `${chs("RS_outputFileNamePrefix"):h}`/BumpNormal.exr Because I saw in this link that this expression should return the directory from the entire string without the file name and extension but I'm not getting the file directory using this expression like this. In conclusion, I'm looking to set the render path only one time and the AOVs with custom path can load it and use other names or formats. Thanks a lot!

  12. Hello guys, I have this Bendangle attribute that I am using as a color in my redshift material. I don't have any issue when I convert it to a Cd attribute and then use the RSUserColorData vop node, but because I want to import two attributes, I couldn't convert them both to Cd as I would have two different attributes with the same name. So I am feeding my attribute (RSPointAttribute) to a RSColorConstant to my material and this happens (screenshot). this effect turns up. What am I doing wrong? Tx
  13. Hello guys, You see in every tutorial how to remove noise on a render by adding more pixels per samples. I like noise, but I only want it on the background lighting and not on my geometry. How can I do this? Cheers!

    Hello Houdini Masters! I'm having trouble with finding a starting point for creating a beam of energy being shot out of the barrel of a weapon. I haven't worked with particles much, but I don't really understand how all those particles become something so clean as a solid beam of "energy". I have some reference as to what i would want the beam to look like: (lilo & stich - the green ray from Jumba's gun): (WoW: Legion trailer - Sylvanas's arrows she's shooting) If anyone has any links to tutorials, articles explaining the process for this, or has any first hand experience working with partcles/"energy"beams your help would be most appreciated.   17. Ocean Foam doesn't work

    Hi everybody, I'm having a problem with the Houdini Ocean Tools. In particular, the Foam SOP doesn't seem to be working at all. To make a comparison, here are some screenshots of an ocean rendered with Houdini 15 prior the introduction of the new HOT (when the foam was texture based). This organic pattern seems quite impossible to achieve in Houdini 18: no matter the density of the foam that I get in the viewport, I can't manage to get this pattern in the render. All the caches are working and linked to the Ocean surface shader properly, and all the tweakes I did on the shader itself only enhanced the whiteness of the waves whitecaps. Even the same Houdini files from the Ocean Masterclass in Houdini 16 doesn't give the same results as the presentation videos. All I could do was to render out the Ocean Foam SOP particles as points using a Principled Shader (or giving them a Density attribute and then render them out as a volume) but having the foam working properly from the Ocean Surface shader would be much more handy. Does anyone knows a possible solution for this? Is it a bug?
  18. Bake Texture of Hair on a Geometry

    I'm having a hard time getting the "Hair Generate" node of my geometry to be projected in its UV when using the "Bake Texture" node. The error presented is that there was no normals and UV map for OUT_GROOM when I tried with the settings of the image (geometry and hair are inside subnet1). I already tried on a "Geometry" node to use the "Object Merge" to bring the geometry and the hair together, and this works so that at least I can project something on the UV. Still, that way I can't apply a material like the "Hair Shader" to the "Object Merge" of the hair, the hair always stays white. No surface base color is showing.
  19. Hi, We are having issues with tiled renders not writing out the images planes that are present in scene. Doing a local render or non-tiled submission with Afanasy works as expected. Looking at the tile renders generatedby the job before the stitch, it appears that whilst there is a separate .exrfile written out for every tile named "filename.exr.tile_1.exr" for example for tile #1, this contains no image plane information. We also have a file namedsimply "filename.exr" which does have embedded image planes but seems to be being written to by each node that is rendering a tile, simultaneously and is always unreadable. Is this correct behaviour and does Afanasy actually support tiled rendering with image planes in Houdini? I would have thought that each separate tile .exr would contain all of the required image planes for the stitched image. If you can shed any light on what we may be doing incorrectly that would be appreciated. thanks Tom

Hello I'm almost newby haha I have big problem that is this : I want know Object point value(px,py) on render view after rendering and that parameter for python script (Sorry I 'm not good English...ㅠ_ㅠ) MY goal is find the obj Maximum , Minimum point values(px.py) and than I draw box window with those points. how can i do?
  22. Like I was trying to generate some cloud by copy to point with one cloud input. According to the help file, packed geometry will certainly reduced lots of render resources because it will ignore the geo outside of the frame, but when it comes to volume, once I checked Packed Instance, all the volume disappeared in render buffer(redshift), there should be something wrong with copy to point ? Or do I have to manually output density attribute ? BTW, is there effective way to reduce volume noise in redshift? Thx !
  23. Does anyone use mantra as the sole renderer for production? Let me rephrase: If I choose to use Mantra for production, am I missing something? am I limited? In which situation do you think I shouldn't be using Mantra? Obviously I didn't mention another renderer to avoid the A vs B. There is just A, Mantra.
  24. hey people! Im having a terrible problem here. Im doing a guided ocean sim, problem is im doing a 0.004 particle separation and meshing. My final mesh is around 4 mil polys and The moment I try to render it with a simple 2k spectrum I get over 50gb in ram usage. Is there a way to reduce the ammount of polies at render time for displacement? I tried the dicing quality and flateness but nothing seems to work I can't even render with with a principled shader and a small scale disp noise. Same problem The camera is a close up, but I get the same problem even with the mesh on 10% of the screen Im using a 64gb setup

Hey everyone, Whenever I go to the render viewport in Houdini 17.0.352 I get the following message "Error : failed to save output to file "traceback (most recent call last):" I joined here both the error message I get when I start Houdini and the Message I get when trying to render using mantra. BUG report.pdf Trying to render a frame manually (save to jpeg) also leads to an error. I tried reinstalling Houdini or even deleting preferences but none of this worked. I believe this is a bug linked to Python, but can't figure out what exactly. -- Could you guys please help me with this situation ?
