  3. Paint Cracking Method

Hey all. I tend to read these sorts of forums a lot but never actually contribute anything, so I figured I should change that. Here's a somewhat lengthy write up of an approach to peeling paint off of a wall: http://www.pixelninja.design/paint-flakes-in-houdini/ I haven't been using Houdini long (only a couple of months) so there's probably much better ways of doing this. If so, let me know! Hopefully it's easy enough to follow along with. Blog/tutorial writing isn't something I generally do, so if you've got any feedback I'd love to hear it. Edit: added a hip file as per a request paintFlakes.hipnc

  11. Learn VEX from Double Negative Senior FX TD Beau Garcia in a new Pluralsight course! Creating Custom Houdini Solvers with VEX Wrangles Often while working on high-end feature films, TV shows, or commercials, it is necessary to create completely procedural setups that are both robust and controllable. This new course, “Creating Custom Houdini Solvers with VEX Wrangles”, is designed to teach you techniques and workflows to help achieve exactly that. In this course, you will learn how to create sophisticated setups that are required to achieve a completely procedural sticky slime system. First, you will learn to utilize Wrangle nodes extensively with VEX scripting to create a dynamic Sticky Constraint Solver that will be the driving force behind the whole system. In addition to the Sticky Constraint Solver, you will learn how Wrangle nodes can be used inside a DOP Network to control a Position-Based Dynamics Solver, otherwise known as the Grain Solver. The course will also take you through how FLIP simulations can be used to complement the effect. By the end of this course, you'll have the practical skills to achieve robust, controllable and procedural setups for high-end Houdini VFX projects.

  14. Crowds in H15

Hey, finally my H15 Crowd tutorial was released on Digital Tutors/Pluralsight. It covers the preparation of animated characters for the crowd system, several behaviours/states/transitions and ragdoll effects! In the end you will have a complete crowd scenario with hundreds of agents and more than 8 different animation clips + ragdoll.. Here you can take a look and feel free to get in contact with me for any further questions and/or feedback Crowds in H15 Just a quick side note...as SideFX is improving the crowd system a lot (even with every daily build) there is now the possibility to import animations directly from the FBX file, which makes the preparation process easier, but nevertheless I think its good to understand whats going on under the hood and you can also start with a later lesson, where all agents are already cached out... Cheers

  18. Hi! I tracked some footage in PF Track, and everything seemed good. My test geo didn't slip or slide around. I exported it as Houdini Script. Brought it into Houdini, trackers all showed up along with the camera. But when I put the image sequence into the Camera background everything is sliding. The trackers don't match up with the background. I don't think my track was as way off as it seems with the background plate. Is there another reason why background sequence and trackers wouldn't be matching up? Any information is great! Thanks!
  19. Hi Folks! My new tut is uploaded. Hope it will help! Please share with me if you have some better suggestion on this technique. THANKS in advance! CHEERS! Link:

  23. Hello everyone, I wanted to introduce my new training. The aim of this commercial training is to take you through the process of creating the Motion Graphics animation shown in the promo. The idea is to create a variety of User Interface and Motion Graphics elements using a combination of SOPs, Particles and CHOPs in Houdini. The training will also cover setting up the materials, rendering and an overview of the final compositing in After Effects. The training is broken into 3 parts. Each part will cover the creation of individual elements required for the final animation. Final Animation Trailer Link to training http://www.rohandalvi.net/motion-graphics I have also put up a few free training videos over the last few weeks. I am putting the links for those down below as well Interior Rendering in Houdini Grow Ivy How to sell Digital Goods ( For anyone who is interesting in selling their own training videos) regards Rohan Dalvi

  25. CG Workshop - Intro To Houdini 14

Hey Everyone, CG Workshop is currently enrolling for the Intro To Houdini 14 course. I will cover a variety of material and get into many technical low level concepts, such as the math, geometry, and trigonometry involved in gaining complete control over an effect. When it comes to making great FX, there aren't any push-button solutions. This course helps to lay that groundwork to understand what is going on under the 'hood'. I will take you step-by-step through the construction using production techniques in Houdini, right from looking at the UI and procedural modeling in Week 1, and eventually on to particles, grains and fluids. We will cover methods that give complete control when you're procedurally fracturing geometry, creating dust and debris, dissolving effects, as well as procedural animation and modeling, to name a few. http://training.cgsociety.org/course/introduction-to-fx-using-houdini Check it out and let me know if you have any questions! Spencer
