  5. CG Workshop - Intro To Houdini 14

Hey Everyone, CG Workshop is currently enrolling for the Intro To Houdini 14 course. I will cover a variety of material and get into many technical low level concepts, such as the math, geometry, and trigonometry involved in gaining complete control over an effect. When it comes to making great FX, there aren't any push-button solutions. This course helps to lay that groundwork to understand what is going on under the 'hood'. I will take you step-by-step through the construction using production techniques in Houdini, right from looking at the UI and procedural modeling in Week 1, and eventually on to particles, grains and fluids. We will cover methods that give complete control when you're procedurally fracturing geometry, creating dust and debris, dissolving effects, as well as procedural animation and modeling, to name a few. http://training.cgsociety.org/course/introduction-to-fx-using-houdini Check it out and let me know if you have any questions! 7. Packed Primitives in Houdini 13

Hi, About a month back I made a free tutorial dealing with Packed Primitives in Houdini 13. The tutorial primarily deals with instancing and not the bullet aspect of packed geometry. After I had created it I was informed by some of the viewers about a couple of thing that I had missed or was unaware of. So I ended up created a second part for it. Both part together deal with how Packed primitives can be used in Houdini to replace the old instancing system. The second part deals with the "name" attribute and how to store groups within name attributes which help with material assignment. It also deals with using assigning random colors to packed primitives at render time. Links for both parts Part 1 Part 2 I also provide commercial training for Houdini which can be found on my website http://www.rohandalvi.net/ regards Rohan Dalvi

  11. Vizy Acky online courses?

Hi there, I have considered signing up for the vol100 course on http://www.vizyacky.com, but I wanted to hear if anybody here had taken those courses? If so, how are they and are they worth the money? I am looking for the best videos to understand Houdini. I want something that teaches me the generals of Houdini, more than methods of approaching a specific effect. If there is any other alternatives, that may be better, please let me know. Cheers, Jonas Jørgensen
  12. Pyro rendering

Hi, My name is Jonas. I am fairly new to Houdini, but I definitely feel that I'm learning. However, now I have a problem. When I try to render a pryo simulation of mine, I get some pretty harsh edges. It's not for a specific project, it's generally. I've tried to change almost all of the parameters, but it doesn't work... And when it have been working better, I have gotten some insane render times. Any ideas for what to change? Again I am fairly new, so I do not know what to upload to you guys, what info do you need? for my tests I have just been using a sphere, which I've applied the billowy smoke to. I've decreased the division size to 0.05 and my render is set to 32x32 in pixel samples. My volume quality to 1, general shading quality to 10. What else to do? Cheers, Jonas Jørgensen
  13. Hi Everyone, I just finished up another tutorial for CMIVFX. This one is about particle morphs. It covers a pretty wide range of ways to do the effect, from simple SOPS morphs, to complicated Steer/Arrive behavior in POPS. There's also a section about turning a RBD point object in DOPS into a particle system and applying the Steer/Arrive solution in the DOP network. This is a mid to advanced level tutorial, and it assumes you already have Houdini experience and experience in POPS, SOPS, and DOPS. I think there is a lot of really good information in here, and hopefully it is presented in a clear, concise way, and at a decent pace. You can check it out here: http://cmivfx.com/store/564-Houdini+Particle+Morphing+Effects I hope you enjoy it and find it useful! -Adam
  14. Hello. I'm working my way down the page of tutorials and have hit a snag. I've created my column obj, instanced it to the RBD Point object and created the ground plane. Running a sim at this point everything works- the wreaking ball knocks down the pins no trouble. AFTER I apply the "Make Breakable" to the columns and run the sim, the columns begin a controlled demolition on themselves- the bases crumble and the columns shatter before the wrecking ball hits. I cant figure out what I'm doing wrong here- I've tried this three times now with the same results. Ive checked normals on the column obj and they are fine, and all the params seem to be correct, but I cant think of anything else to look for, and I've searched this forum to see if it's come up before but nada. any help is appreciated thanks Tony Houdini Apprentice HD 12.5.427 OS X 10.7.5 MacPro 64gb Ram quadro4800 BADcolumns.2.hipnc
  15. cmiVFX Releases New Houdini Destructive Cracking Techniques High Definition Training Videos for the Visual Effects Industry Princeton, NJ (May 1st, 2013) cmiVFX has released their newest lesson Creating Cracks Digital-Asset in Houdini. Voronoi fracture is powerful but also has some limitations. How we can have full control over the shape of the pieces? How we can make animation for crack propagation? How we can break only certain parts of an object while other areas remain intact? In this lesson Mehdi Salehi reveals a new VFX technique in Houdini. In this lesson we will create a new digital asset to answer these questions. This new tool can use patterns for creating cracks. You will learn that almost anything can be used as the pattern. For example, You can use lines, L-system or image files as the pattern. You will learn our new digital asset has even more power. It can be used to create precise tear patterns for cloth simulation even for low poly objects. This lesson offers new exclusive effect technique which is recommended to all Houdini users. VIMEO TEASER HERE: https://vimeo.com/65339465 Short Description The aim is to create a tool to use a predefined crack pattern such as image files, wires or L-systems for cracking an object. No previous knowledge or experience is required to easily follow along. Mehdi Salehi tackles several examples to cover Rigid body and cloth simulations using this new tool. NOTICE TO VIEWERS: (No previous Houdini knowledge is required to follow this lesson. Crack Digital asset is included.) |||||||||||||||||||||| New Houdini Destructive Cracking Techniques |||||||||||||||||||||| ---> http://cmivfx.com/tu...king Techniques Chapter Descriptions Introduction A quick view on all chapters. It Shows where we start and where we go; A map for our great adventure!!! Basic Knowledge This chapter gives important clues about images and Houdini. It shows you how Houdini can give life to still images. It is our starting position. Creating The Asset In this chapter we evoke the power of COPs (channel operators)! This chapter shows you the main idea for creating the crack digital asset. It teaches you how to use the crack pattern for creating precise cracks on an object. Anything such as L-systems or curves can be used as a crack pattern. The power is that precise cuts are possible even for low poly objects. Crack Asset And Rigid Body Objects This chapter talks about simulating the pieces created by the crack asset. It shows the problems of using fracture rigid body dynamic and how we can deal with them. Also, you can see how cracks can be animated to create a crack propagation effect. There are two examples here. In the first example, the chapter discusses about how to use the crack asset for breaking a car window. You will learn how to create crack propagation and also how to simulate the pieces. In the second example the chapter talks about using the crack asset to break a bottle. The cool thing is that only specific area of the objects affected by crack asset and the other areas remain intact. A powerful feature for rendering broken glass!!! Crack Asset And Cloth Objects The other possible use of the crack asset. A journey to cloth simulation! This chapter shows you how this new crack asset can be used for cloth simulation. Now it is possible to create precise tear patterns and then simulate them. You can even animate tearing of a cloth object. The cool thing is that the cloth object can be a fairly low poly object. Also this chapter shows you some important notes and tricks about simulating cloth objects. About the Instructor My name is Mehdi Salehi. 16. Hi there, Just a quick post to promote my new tutorial for cmivfx. It shows how to create a 3D spiral galaxy from scratch. The images used to promote the video are the actual images made from the tutorial. It covers creating a vortex star simulation in POPS, DOPS smoke simulation for the gas, and a SOPS system for the background star field. I go through material creation, rendering, and compositing. I also provide a finished hip file that has all the networks in it. I should note that this is more of a creative approach, rather than a scientific approach, so if you are looking for something like an n-body approach, you won't find that here. I hope people find this tutorial easy to understand, well thought out, and presented clearly. I believe CMIVFX is offering a discount code at the moment, so if you are looking to purchase it, now would be a good time.
