  1. Hello all, I am quite new with Houdini, just started in the beginning of this month. I enjoy Houdini very much, however, I encounter a problem here and have been here for quite some time. So what I want to do it basically make a scene of a ball crashing a wall and then have debris coming out of the wall as the effect of the crashing and the wall being torn down. Well basically want to get this to the next level. However, I have been looking for a way to do this and found somethings but maybe because I still need to learn more about Houdini, I do not really get how to do this properly. So I thought I can start from a simpler scene first. Firstly I read a post hereand have tried to do it step by step and even try to mimic the scene exactly but I still have no luck. I use Houdini 12 so I grabbed the torus_debris_h12_fix.hip file. I did everything as exactly as how it is in the file, but as from what I check, I see that the "delete" from the particle_location1 does not work properly (If what I see is correct). Although I see this problem, I have no idea how to fix it since I think all is correct I attached my file here. can anyone help me on this? and maybe if you know a tutorial that can be helpful for me to get the hang of this? Thanks in advance houdini_29-09try.hipnc
  2. Hi I'm new to Houdini and recently I've been getting into DOPs. I have a question I've been trying different things out in dops to see how they work, been playing around with the "Gas Match Field" node and found that it works quite nicely when both fields you are supplying the node with are from the same object Like on picture 1, both the "myField" field and the "heat" field are part of the same object and the node works just fine But what I can't figure out is how to make the node work when I'm supplying it with fields from different objects. On picture 2 "myField" is part of an empty object and the "heat" field is part of the smoke object, I tried to reference them via their paths like on the picture 2 but unfortunately it doesn't seem to work. Does anyone have any insight into why this may be, I can see how referencing field from different objects can come in handy not just for this scenario.
  3. Hey guys, is there a way to use NB on standard liquid object (like a sphere)? I need to melt something and the simulation is getting very expensive, it would be awesome to use narrow band on it but I could only use it on a FLIP Tank by now Thx, Alvaro
  4. Hi Guys, I need some expert advice and insights on this project I'm working on. I'm doing some RnD first before moving to bigger scale so I can provide you guys with the HIP file. The objects however (barrels and table pieces) I cannot share with you. But maybe there's something in the dop nodes or solvers that you can spot right away. I'm working on a flood scene where there's a lot of debris and rubble that needs to be transported by the water. Please have a look at the video. The barrels seems to acquire a spin which at one point is out of control! I can imagine this could be the rotational stiffness... but the exploding (and stuck) piece of table is still a mystery at the moment. As you can see I'm also having trouble controlling the buoyancy of the objects in the fluid. Right now I use the density to try and float pieces but it's not entirely working the way I want it. To sum it up: - The wooden planks need to float - barrels need less spin and need to be embedded more in the fluid. - the tables obviously need to stop launching like superman . any advice or tips are greatly appreciated . 5. I have three individual components to this briefcase, the body, the handle rings and the handle, the body is a static objects and the other two are RBD packed objects, all concave. I am trying to get the handle to hang from the suitcase naturally but they are falling through each other, there is a slight reaction but i cant get them to completely react to each other. I have attached a zip of the three .obj files and the .hip file if anybody could have a look. Any help would be really appreciated ! Thanks! Assets.zip
  6. I have a load of RBD packed objects smashing on a Ground Plane, they're all intersecting by a consistent distance through the Ground Plane, the RBD packed objects are all convex hull rather than concave although changing between the two doesn't seem to make a difference. I've tried replacing the Ground Plane with a static box and trying different geo representations on it but that doesn't seem to work either. Any suggestions on how to fix this would be really appreciated! Thanks
  7. hi all i dont know whats goin on here i've been trying for a couple hours now and to no avail. I have my crowd sim... i then unpack connectivity partition convert clean then finally alembic rop with $F in the filename so "mycrowd.$F.abc" now i simply cant figure out how to get the crowd out to maya as separate items. I've searched all over SESI and watched a video on vimeo and it still wont play ball can anyone advise me what i'm doing wrong here? It comes into maya just fine as one solid mesh but it'd be nice to be able to turn off the few idiotic agents ruining it for the rest of the otherwise nice sim thanks ant
  8. Hi, I am running a boat simulation with regular flip tank, i am trying to figure out how to track the flip tank to the boat... After some quick search it seems that i have to use a FLAT tank or a tank that came with ocean suite Is there a way to keep may flip tank and make it follow may boat? Thanx
  9. Houdini Rolling Box Tutorial Here's a tutorial set for creating a rolling box without simulation. This was based on a question from one of my students, which turned into a bit of a complex answer. So I recorded the process. It's a good overview of how to create somewhat complex animation setups and avoid motion blur problems. The value isn't so much in getting a box to roll as to understand some animation methods in Houdini. Also covers lighting and rendering. Enjoy -Garman
  10. Hi, My problem is that I can't combine two object together. THis might be tied to another problem I have: I can't select one of the objects. I think I might have messed it up somewhere not sure where or how to fix it though. ---Click on the image to play the GIF animation--- | | \/ \/ How do I make an object selectable/ not selectable?
