  1. Im new to houdini and very confused at the moment. I tried creating a smoke portal like effect from particles then using vdb from particles. I created 2 tries. In both i dont know why the some is pretty low res in the viewport. Also i tried changing the velocity scale in the smoke volume sources but they seem to have no effect on the smoke. In the first one the center seems quite static and in the second one no velocity is inherited at all it seems. Any help would be appreciated. portal.hip

  3. Hey guys iv'e been struggling to understand about Jacobian matrix and eigenvector why they are used in smoke solver how can they effect the look of simulation? Any ideas? Thanks
  4. Hello, Could anyone explain exactly how pyro collisions work? In some cases, it doesn't seem like collisions with the smoke solver are "real" when using moving colliders. It seems like 2 things happen when using an animated static object: 1. Takes the velocity from the collider and advects the smoke with it 2. Delete any density that goes inside collision object (can be disabled) Look at my gif. If I disable velocity from the collision nothings happens. The density just gets deleted. In the example I turned off correct collisions for better visualization. If the collisions were "real", I would expect the density to move when the collider moves, then stop once the collider stops since no velocity from the collider is being applied. Any ideas? smoke_collision_test.hip
  5. Hi Guys, I just started learning about smoke simulation. I am trying to create a tornado simulation using smoke solver instead of Pyro. I followed the custom force tutorial from Ben Watts. The problem that I am facing is that when I start my simulation, after a while the smoke spread out and remains floating and it doesn't follow my velocity field. How can I get it to follow my velocity all the time, or is there anyway to kill the smoke based on their age? I have attached a quick preview and my hip file. Thanks, Preview.mp4 Tornado_test7.hiplc
  6. Hi everyone, I am trying to set the values to a collision field in a gas wrangle. I am using the gas build collision mask node to create the necessary fields and then I am trying to set values with a gas wrangle. Is it even possible to do it this way? I have a example scene that shows how I set it up now, that doesn't work. My purpose for this that I want to be able to simulate a 2d smoke simulation and collide to an object on a different height for every voxel. I will eventually want a separate height field that will accumulate the density and this heightfield will be the Y position for the voxel to check the collision. I am quite new to smoke/pyro simulations, so this scene probably doesn't make any sense gas_collsion.hipnc
  7. Hey guys! Trying to figure out the whole custom vectorfield aspect of the pyro solver, but running into some issues.. I created a new vectorfield (Cd) under the smoke object, importing a Cd vectorfield that i want to use in a source volume node (replaced velocity with Cd to Cd as another forum post on here suggested). Then I added a gas advect field microsolver to the advection input of the pyro solver. With the multi checked on the visualization and Cd in for diffuse, I can see that the vectorfield is properly being sourced, but it doesnt advect by the velocity field for some reason, it just sits there. The gasadvectfield node should move the Cd by Vel right? I've found some good forum posts about this here, but for the life of me can't replicate the effect. Any suggestions / advice? Thanks! 8. Need a bit of help on a problem for a client, ( on an NDA as well ). Basically, I have a pipeline that shoots to Octane in C4D for the VDB usage and the smoke sim I made is fine and they are head over heels for it but the type (in the smoke) in the first frame is too pixelated for them and not high res enough. I've been trying to find the right amount of density and type space to keep the titles as sharp as possible but when I put them into C4D and play around about it's still exported in Alpha somewhat pixelated. Any ideas? I have a sample hip of the pig had at a reasonably replicated density to the pig but I need it to be more stoic. Smoke_collide_pig.hip
  9. Hello everyone! I am very new to Houdini an need some help. I am trying to rebuild ""FLUID SOURCE" node with container settings "collision" to use it later in DOP with "Smoke Solver" and importing collision with "Source Volume". Just now have made with VDB surface field called it "collision" and create one more VDB from attribute "v" called it "collisionvel". I see difference between FLUID SOURCE and VDB collision is in first one create 3 scalar velocity fields and the second create one vector velocity field. Setup with VDB now have a problem my density ( made with "Source Volume") : theres no adding to density from SOP , but it works like copy. I will appreciate for any help! Thanks! P.S. Also i am interesting to rebuild it all without smoke solver, so feel free to comment all around this problem!

    Smoke Man Effect

Hey everyone, I'm still kinda new to Houdini and right now I'm trying to get a similar effect like it is shown in this video https://vimeo.com/110820797. I used one of the animated characters in Houdini and put the 'Billowy Smoke' "onto" it. The effect works, but I still have some issues which I can't solve by myself. At around frame 45 the smoke man is not displayed completely anymore. The legs kind of disappear. To check this issues, I also took a sphere as the smoke emitter and I noticed that the sphere already was not fully displayed in frame 1. You'll see the issues on my screenshots. I have really no clue what's causing this and therefore I hope some of you can help me solving this. Thanks in advance, r4ZR smoke.hip
