  3. Hello, I have a scene where I am emitting circles, where a POP wind is creating the noise, but I want to be able to limit it only on the Z and X axis. How would I be able to achieve this?
  4. Hello, Noob question here, I have a vellum plane being affected by a popwind force, I don't like the current look of the simulation, how would I change the 'seed' of it to change the results? Thanks!
  5. Hi, I love the "wind tunnel direction" feature in the sparse solver, and I would like to find a way to mask it's effect. I know this is just a vector field node with "External Direction" set to a given value, but I don't know how to apply a mask to it (say I'm simulating a chimney with smoke rising out from the top. I wouldn't want the wind inside my chimney). I can do this inside the gas wind node or with any other force node. The problem is: none of them look nearly as good as the "External Direction" option in the vector field node! (with gas wind being the worst). I've tried using the "Sop Vector Field" node, and plugging in a sop field with the same value to what an "External Direction" value might be. It kinda works, but not quite. The result is not the same, and I noticed that the velocity field is getting incorrectly updated. (it flashes in and out of active areas when "activated") - also it's slower I hope there is a Gas DOP expert who can help me. Basically what I want, is a wind that looks as natural as the "Wind Tunnel / External Direction" but with the ability for applying masking (and other stuff if possible). Thank you so much, if you actually read this. Thank you even more, if you can help Best Regards, Asger Mortensen.
  6. Hey magicians, Just saw this fantastic spot by Lewis Orton and I was wondering how to achieve this effect where the particles are calm and explode up (sec 0:9 and 0:22), I tried with a ripple sop to drive the particles but the effect is very poor (and particles go up and down instead of up only, tried vector to float here with no luck) Any tip to get me on direction will be really helpful! Thanks!
  7. I released tutorial about procedural tree rigging system. Applying for any model. Procedural setup of the wire dynamics, non simulation wind system and growth setup working in real time. Capture geometry by spines. https://gum.co/Xxeqf I hope you'll like it.
  8. Hello all, I'm looking to create a wind force that flows through vellum cloth in one direction. I feel like I'm getting close with offset on a pop force but it seems like the wind is moving the cloth uniformly all at once and I can't figure out how to fix that. I've attached a reference of the flowing cloth I'm trying to create and a hip of where I'm at. Any help would be greatly appreciated! videoplayback2.mp4 Simple_FlagWind_01.hiplc
  9. Hey everyone ! As an exercise I am trying to reproduce this C4D tutorial in Houdini, which seems pretty basic but I can't find the way to do it : I tried to use vellum cloth and a pop wind but I am not sure it's the right way to go. I had some pressure to avoid the sphere to collapse but again I am pretty sure this is not the way to go. 3 points interesting in the video : The folding of the cloth which are really realistic to me The fact that the sphere is not collapsing or moving The fact that we can not see the wind direction/noise pattern Here is the hip file even if it will not help :'D Wind-SphereCloth.hip
  10. Hi there, This is a bit out there but I'm trying to remake this effect produced in cinema4d using Vellum: The blinds were simulated then looped and baked to an alembic, then I attached the strings to the edges simulated them, making them loop using a pose morph tag. I was wondering if there is a way to do this in Vellum all at once having the strings effect the movement of the blinds, with the whole thing being a seamless loop. Basic starting point for vellum would be a simple flag I know, but does anyone know any tutorials that would cover attaching multiple cloths together with vellum hairs? Many thanks, H
  11. Good morning, anyone knows how to animate 3d plants imported from megascan (moving with the wind ...)? Thanks a lot! Have a great day!
  12. Hello, today I am facing very difficult problem, maybe you could help me in this struggle. Scenario looks like this: I received animated tree exported from SpeedTree as an alembic file. Now in Houdini it looks like wind is moving leaves which is perfect. The problem is I would like to collide with the leaves with RBD objects which are bouncing around my scene. I would like to keep my “wind” animation on a tree but make the tree responsive to any objects that may collide with it and make it so the leaves would bend on collision. Is it possible ? If so what would be the way to achieve such effect. Have a nice day and thank you for your input in advance. P.
  13. Hello all, does anyone have any tips on applying nice looking ambient wind to wire objects? I have several wires constrained together in a way that is working well, but I'm having a hard time getting any good looking wind to give them ambient movement. I've tried the wind force several times, but can't seem to figure out how to get good results from it. Thanks!
  14. I need some help with making this corals and animation. I wanna make that corals to be shaked when I blow wind. If I already have those corals modeling, Do I have to make it to cloth objects ? I really have no idea with this T_T I'm just beginner If you have any good Idea about it, please let me know ! and about making procedure corals too Thank you for reads
  15. The effect I am trying to achieve is straightforward. Imagine a single piece of flat geometry(blade of grass, sheet of paper) that is fastened on one end only and being blown (affected) by turbulent wind causing it to bend dynamically. I'm going thru Peter Quints DOP's video and looking at the documentation for Wind Force. Does this seem like a job for Cloth Object + FEM Solver? Thanks in advance for any feedback..
  16. Hello, I am trying to make the sails and flags on a pirate ship blow with the wind (that is blowing in the -Z direction). But no matter what direction I put in the velocity parameter in the wind force node, the cloth only blows in the X direction. I thought at first the issue had to do with constraints or maybe one of the cloth parameters but I've played around with almost everything and I just can't seem to figure it out. Can anyone help me figure out what's happening? boat_resized.obj boat_flags_03.hipnc
  17. Hey guys! Need your help. I create some smoke going on top and decide add some custom vel field. I follow this masterclass but after sim I got this strange square look on edges of the smoke... Any suggestions?
  18. My current development. Digital asset for creating production-ready animated trees and other plants. A few types of wind (Real time wind system and accurate dynamic wind), many many options to customize plant as you wish. Additional examples of wind animation will be a little later. Basically, you need only 8 hours to create fully dynamical 3d tree. (2-3 hours for tweak a shape and all other time for dynamic) Implemented by python, HDK, and a lot of free time This is noncommercial thing. - Module system for any kinds of vegetation - All in one DA - Maximum flexibility - Fast internal modules based on HDK ( C++) - Auto smooth trunks - Dynamics - Leaves mesh builder http://vimeo.com/58316944 Please, feel free to contact me any time. Thanks.
  19. Hi guys I'm working on a field plants dynamic and set dressing project like the attached image; So I'm confused about the pipeline for simulating the wind effect. I used wire solver and I simulated some of plants individually but for scattering those, I should use rotation for different look and now the wind direction won't look right. also simulating all the plants together is not an easy and efficient task. So is there a better way? can you please give me a hint? Thank you
  20. Hello I am relatively new to Houdini. I wanted to have a stormy ocean sequence and a boat in it.. I wanted some splash(spray) particles to breakup by wind. But connecting wind force to the whitewater solver is not working. I tested the scene with a simple cylinder in wave layer tank. How can I have wind affect the whitewater?
  21. Genius Houdini Community! I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around something so I thought it best to ask the experts out there. We're about to do a project where a rigid object ( like a box or a tea kettle ) is floating weightlessly in a room. It is being blown around by wind and bumping into objects as it goes. What we would like to do is loosely keyframe the object for basic choreography and timing but have the dynamic object "follow" it, like a target. This way you get the benefit of having keyframed motion influencing the dynamics. Would a sop solver be the right way to go here? Field force? It's been a while since I used dops so any advice or examples would be appreciated. I'm sure there's an elegant solution out there but I'm just not able to think of it. Thanks very much!
  22. What hair does not grow? Standard sphere, Add Fur and Add Dynamics from Fur shelve. At the end of the dynamics the standard windforce dop. Why is this happening and how to stop the growth? Something trail SOP in guides, huh? http://youtu.be/Qr-2cM2vtrc simple_sphere_fur_bug_01.hipnc
  23. Hi guys, I was playing with a sim, importing a vel field from a bgeo cached file and merging it with a cloth simulation, so the cloths reacts to the vel imported. Also the cloth has his gravity. All the networks works well, but then I tried to put a wind force, to move the cloth a little more, taking the vel not just from the imported field, it seems that the wind force overwrite completely the imported vel. I've tried to modify the force without any change. Than I've deleted the wind force and added a uniform force with a noise field and all worked fine. Why's happening?
