Soft Raytraced shadows

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am pretty sure that this topic has been discussed before, but I couldn't find anything so far so I thought i should ask. So, how can i soften the raytrace shadows generated by a spot light? Thanks a lot guys in advance.

Well, for one, don't use a spot light. :)

Either create a new area light from the shelf, or change your existing light to an area light. Light tab > Light Type > Area Light. In the Area Light Options tab below you can increase its size to give you softer shadows.

Your other option is to add the optional parameter "shadow shader" to your light object and point it at a shadow shader that'll do soft shadows. The Vex blur shadow shader that comes with Houdini will get the job done.

good luck!

Thanks a lot guys. I saw in the forums about the blur shadows shader but I didn't know that you had to add it from the rendering parameters. Once again thanks!
