woodenduck 52 Posted August 21, 2013 You should check out the dozens of free tutorials on the SideFx website, there's more than enough to get you up to speed with texturing and shading - http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogsection&id=14&Itemid=132 http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2194&Itemid=132 http://www.sidefx.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=2266&Itemid=132 http://training.adrianlazar.com/2012/02/21/houdini-shading-with-the-mantra-surface-shader/
hokagai 0 Posted August 21, 2013 Thanks alot woodenduck , so i think there is no way to import uv and texture with the obj from 3Ds max to houdini , i think you have to repeat the mapping work and texturing in houdini from the begining ?
rafaelfs 40 Posted August 22, 2013 Thanks alot woodenduck , so i think there is no way to import uv and texture with the obj from 3Ds max to houdini , i think you have to repeat the mapping work and texturing in houdini from the begining ? There is a way, but I never use OBJ for that matter, since our pipeline is based on alembic. That being said, you might have to either find another exporter script/plugin or try another format. I personally only do my modeling in Maya/Blender and all the rest in Houdini. Cheers
ben 24 Posted August 22, 2013 (edited) Obj format does not defined texture or materials, .mtl does, but Houdini won't care about that. Export fbx from max and you'll be fine. You'll get materials (basic) with texture. Also your smoothing groups, differents UVs, vertex color, etc, will be preserved.
