render thickness in an object

is it posible to make a shader that emulate thickness?

example i have a skirt geometry and i dont want to be dealing poly extruding and rendering,

can a shader make a grid object look thicker at rendering?

mmm intersting, i am making a grid, using a cop color set to white, and turning on the displacement in the shader, and move all the grid up, or down, if i change it to Decal, now i get a tile, and looking it from below, looks open,like a polyextrude.

is your texture all black and just the edge white?

White with a couple of pixels of black border.

About the tile, I put a UV projection node.
