htoa aIShader install

Recommended Posts

Hi ,

I am a 3D artist usually working on maya and now I am trying to learn Houdini.

I have installed aIShaders to maya but when I tried to install for Houdini  I couldn`t find in the materials inside shop network.

I can see ai default shaders .

I have copied dll and mtd files into following folder and I have been searching internet for a while.So I will be  greatful if someone point me to a right direction.

C:\Users\WS01\htoa\htoa-1.9.0_r1552_houdini-15.0.244.16\htoa-1.9.0_r1552_houdini-15.0.244.16\arnold\plugins

This is the default directory that arnold had automatically installed.

and here is the env. path

# htoa config start

PATH = "$PATH;C:/Users/WS01/htoa/htoa-1.9.0_r1552_houdini-15.0.244.16/htoa-1.9.0_r1552_houdini-15.0.244.16/scripts/bin"
# htoa config start
HOUDINI_PATH = "C:/Users/WS01/htoa/htoa-1.9.0_r1552_houdini-15.0.244.16/htoa-1.9.0_r1552_houdini-15.0.244.16;&"
# htoa config end

Thanks in advance and I am sorry beforehand if this is a newbie question.

You have to set the ARNOLD_PLUGIN_PATH to the path where your additional shaders are located.

[path]/[to]/alShaders/bin

Be aware that you won't see them in the SHOP context directly. They will only be picked up by Arnold inside a Arnold Shader Network.

Cheers,

Dennis

I can't seem to get alshaders installed for either H15.0244.16 or H15.5.523. I've tried copying the contents of "..alshader/bin/*" directly to the "..arnold/plugins/" folder or setting the ARNOLD_PLUGIN_PATH =  "C:/Users/SR2/Downloads/alshader17/bin" in my houdini.env . Yes, I've looked for the nodes in the Arnold shop network as well.

Any ideas what could be stopping the shaders from getting loaded?

Does a specific version of alshders only work with a particular arnold version?

Arnold seems to be working just fine as well. I'm on a fresh format/install of win 10 pro.

While Arnold is not particularly picky about this, there are certain combinations that don't work well together. Ideally you have an HtoA version for the specific Houdini version as well as alShaders compiled for exactly the same Arnold Core version as HtoA.

Could you launch Houdini from the commandline tools and copy the Arnold log in here? If the env is set correctly Arnold will tell you that it tries to load the plugins from the alShaders location. If something goes wrong (like non compatible versions) it will load 0 (zero) plugins and also print that to the log.

Cheers,

Dennis

Hi,
can you see any errors / warning in Houdini console when rendering with Arnold?

Here is the logs. It says it can't find the plugins. Yet I've tried loading from 2 different versions of the alshaders (  ORC17, and ORC14 ) from 2 different drives and it just refuses to load them. The file paths are local and valid. I'm truly stumped. the 2nd log is from the ../alshader/bin copied directly to Arnold plugins folder. In both cases it gives the same error which makes little sense. The silly thing I can install it just fine on my laptop...

There's a mismatch between the Arnold version (4.2.11.2) and the version that alShaders have been compiled with (4.2.12.2).

Try and install the matching HtoA version and see if that fixes your problem.
