Object disappears during boolean

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I am trying to do a boolean operation, I have a curve which uses a carve SOP to shrink or grow, I have used a polywire to give it some geometry and I am using this geometry for input2 in the boolean operation. But when I change the carve, the main object that is connected to boolean input 1, keeps disappearing and reappearing. Does anyone know why this happens?  I am using a subtract operation in boolean.

Thanks for you help,

Thats hard to know why. Do you have screenshots or hip file?

Seems to work for me if I'm understanding what you're doing correctly (H18.5.351).  As @Mark01 says, it's hard to determine anything specific without images or a sample .hip file to demonstrate what you're actually trying to do.

Hello,

Thanks for your messages.

I have attached the file. Trying an old tutorial. In the control tab, you can control the crack. After the values go above 0.94, it disappears. The warning sign on the boolean is there even before the geometry disappears.

The reason your boolean is disappearing is because the Polywire SOP in your scene is creating self-intersecting geometry at too many places.

Oh thanks. I thought that it might be causing the problem but when I drew another curve, it didn't happen, so I wasn't really sure why. Thanks for clarifying.
