length of a bouncing ray

I want to create a depth shader that takes into account reflections, so that the image reflected in a mirror can be defocused later in compositing.

Is there a way to measure the length a ray traces through the scene, even after bouncing about a few times?

Hey Gergely, thanks for looking at that!

There is an undocumented node called "pathtrace" in Vex. It's got a good name but looking at its parameters I don't think it will help. But maybe someone knows better!
