Reading outside data, in realtime

I just watched this video:

If I were to do a simpler version of visualization like that inside Houdini, how do you think is best to set it up?

For example:

- Realtime reading of TEXT files, which in turn will update Houdini and add that data and scatter some Font object

- Realtime reading of IMAGES, which will automatically generate gallery.

My logic saying that:

1. I need to use File SOP to read [data] in a particular folder/path.

2. I need a node to read how many files being read. Maybe scatter based on that.

3. The rest is procedural.

Do I need Python for this? Is there a way for Houdini to keep continuously reading and updating data when I add or remove files?
