Scratch
Really really great tutorial Scott! Big thx to you and the whole Sidefx team!! I was wondering though...this waterfall tutorial is (for me as a somehow houdini-freshman) a rather complex one (I know you wanted to do this tutorial to show of H12 Flip Fluids capabilities, and I perfectly understand that this tutorial is aimed towards intermediate to advanced users, so no offense, don't get me wrong!) But for people like me - just begining to learn about houdini, having a somehow basic understanding of the general concepts of houdini,...node based, procedural workflow, divided into sops, dops, pops etc...), it's a bit difficult to make a start in modules like fluids, pyro etc. Since you drastically changed the workflow of these modules with the release of H12, one can not rely on all the existing tutorial material which is out there on these topics because it is no longer valid/applicable. Digital Tutors, cmiVFX, fxPHD...all outdated (don't get me wrong, only regarding to these topics!) The only lonesome fighter in this field is Peter Quint who did some ecellent basic tutorials on smoke and Pyro in H12 - but unfortunately he did't do one for Flip yet. So maybe a bold question: Is it possible for you guys to do some basic introductory tutorials on Flip or Pyro, where you really go over all the essential workflows, techniques and nodes, where you give us a general idea how stuff works on a more basic level, so that we have the right knowledge and mindset to take this really cool toolset of yours to the next level, e.g. your waterfall. At the moment, feel like I have to build the roof of a house befor having the basement done...but without some "basic bricks" I can't even start out building anything. I by all means do not want to offend you or Sidefx with this post (you do incredible great work!), I just thought I give you guys the information that this is a actual problem that might not only affect me but many other new aspiring houdini artists. Thx for taking the time to read! I very much appreciate!
