kinetic
Hello, I'm trying to create small projects to get more familiar with modeling in Houdini, so consider me a Houdini modeling noob. The project I'm currently working on requires a model of the Houdini Logo, which I'll be using for some particle effects. For testing purposes, I created a curve and used it as a stencil so to speak. I added a simple grid, used the project and trim sops to stencil out the Houdini logo swirl. Is there any better way to come up with this kind of result? It works, I'm not complaining. Just curious if there are other workflows for this kind of process. Thanks in advance. Oh, not the best looking design.....I know. Annon
Which ever way you know is fine usually, if it get's the job done then that\s good enough! Obviously as you progress you'll get a broader understanding and can maybe pick the most optimised way of doing something etc... In your case I think it's fine, but for experimentation you could look at generating the geo from an image of the logo instead of drawing it out yourself... I'll try that out in a few. Thanks.

Netvudu
Yes, after trying the Trace SOP you might want to facepalm yourself for the logo above. It´s so simple Another interesting FX-oriented option, could be to generate a bunch points with a pic() function so that they are placed with the shape of an image with an alpha(hint: add a color based on the image, and use Cd as your scattering attribute) and then use the Particle Fluid Surface to mesh those points. The interesting thing about this is that you could use this on an image sequence for some radical (and cool) effects Edited April 25, 2012 by Netvudu
