Volume display transparency compared to render/tutorial

Hey guys, I'm trying ot follow the pyro volcano tutorial, but Im having some display issues... I think. Volumes in my viewport seem quite transperant compared to the render and the viewport on the tutorial. Ive tried GL 1.1, 2.1, 3.3 and they all look the same to me. I've also noticed I have to toggle "enable light in viewport" to refresh the shadows. Image attatched.

 

I have a geForce GTX 780 running 332.21 drivers, and am running Houdini 13.0.314. Windows 8.

 

Any thoughts?
