LGanc
Hi there, I'm new to Houdini and I'm having trouble rendering a scene with clouds. As you can see from the attached images, the render comes out looking very different to what I get in the preview window and I have no idea why that is... If somebody could point me to what I'm doing wrong I'd very much appreciate it. Lucas.
Guest tar
Try setting your manta to raytracing. That's what preview does
LGanc
Thanks for the tip Marty. I tried it but it came out looking close to the other renders rather than the look/colors of the preview... I'll render one frame so you can see what it looks like.
Guest tar
Looks like your missing shadows. Make sure to set the light shadows to raytracing. Preview defaults to ray trace shadows
LGanc
That was it! Thanks a lot Marty.
Netvudu
Also beware of the rendering times hit while raytracing everything...
LGanc
what would be the most efficient way to do it?
Netvudu
if you can get away with depth map shadows instead of raytracing, volumes should render faster...
LGanc
I'm noticing that it does indeed render noticeably slower. Unfortunately I couldn't get any shadows with PBR and depth map shadows, I was only getting shadows with raytrace shadows and raytrace render, is there a way around this? Thanks for your help Netvudu
Netvudu
mmm...that´s weird. Are you using Pyro clouds or the off-the-shelf cloud tool?
LGanc
the off-the-shelf cloud tool...
LGanc
I deleted the lights and placed them again and now PBR renders fine with shadows... Thanks for your help guys.
