ROPing POPnet takes very long

In my scene, I find it weird it takes no time to play/ simulate the particles but as soon as I ROP the particles out, it seems to take ages, up to five times longer, which is far more than I would usually expect from I/O issues. Is there anything I might have forgotten, so caching takes so much time?
