f1480187 Posted June 26, 2016 Share Posted June 26, 2016 (edited) UV Coords is a simple wrapper over Shading Layer Parameter. Just dive inside it, it is merely what you did above with the Vector to Float node. I guess it exists as a straightforward and quick way to access first and usually single UV channel, saving you a few clicks.
